I have a battery question

Yeah last night i went with my girl to get her taxes done. On our wayto her house before she said the jetta felt funny so we decided to take it so I could see what's going on. I tested it out on our way over to H&R Block, but the car ran fine. When we finished with the taxes I went to turn on the car and the battery was dead. I know I didnt leave the lights on and we were only there for 30 minutes, I tried again but nothing. I took out the key and heard a clicking sound in the car and the motors for the locks kept moving and the lights would flash on and off along with the radio, it was like the car was possessed by a Poltergeist or something. anyways the car eventually stopped and I called musashi to see if he could help us. He was 30 minutes away so i called another friend to see if he could take us to my house so I could get some tools.

We got back to the car and I un hooked the battery to reset the ECU, I connected it back and he gave me a jump and it started. It was about 10:30 now and we hadnt had any dinner yet so we went to taco bell and there was a big line for the drive thru, The lights in the car were shaky and everytime i put a switch the car would hessitate, so I told my girl I needed her help to over load the battery, i wanted to see if it was the alternator of not, cause if it was the battery not holding the charge the car would be fine since the alternator would keep the battery alive. We turned on all the lights, flipped all the switches, turned on the defroster for the back window, and turned on the fan for the A/C, we lowered the windows and once they were lowered I was going to press the buttons for the windows to make the motors work since the windows were already down. Once I pressed down on all four buttons the car shut off. I was cursing like crazy thinking it was the alternator. We pushed the car out of the line, gave it another jump and took it to burger king cause we werent about to wait in that line again.

We got to burger king and parked in a spot where there was alot of light, the car shut off as soon as i parked. I opened the hood, and disconnected the battery. I inspected the connections and there was alot of oxidation on the connectors, so much that it blocked any spark from being formed. I took a nail filer and scrapped off the white powder and the car started just fine.

My question here is is there a way to prevent or delay that white powder from forming on the connectors and about a week and a half ago when i changed the hose musashi had cleaned the battery connectors for me, why did more form that quickly? I really dont want to have to keep cleaning it up, is there something i could put on it so i dont have o keep cleaning, or do I need to replace those connections?

I think there is a product out there to prevent it but Im not sure. Is that on the inner part of the connectors? Ive got the corrosion on mine, but its on my amp power wire, not on the terminal itself, or if so, it isnt much. Ive never seen it form that quickly either, a friend has that problem with his prelude, but it takes a long time for it to form.

It is on the inner part of the connectors, the battery is new so the batter shouldnt be a problem, but if you know of the product please tell me.

go to napa. its called battery protectant. you can also get some battery cleaner that will neutralize any corrosion buildup before you put the protectant on.

thanks, now just gotta find a napa, by any chance would advanced auto parts or pepboys have it? those are local so i dont have to go out of the way for it.

the local auto store shoud have it. call ahead though just in case.

I got some stuff for my GTP's battery from autozone but I gave it to my brother in law to do his and I havent seen it since. I will be reminding him shortly about that.

I was having a similar problem Gotian and right before I started to set my car on fire I was told to check the battery terminals. Not only were they pretty coroded but the positive was actually loose. I cleaned everything real good tightened it all down put some of that anti corosive stuff on and problem solved. Been running fine ever since...

your car heard you wanted to get rid of it and its trying to commit Auto-Suicide by shorting itself out.

All auto parts sell that stuff. its a spray can and you coat the ports with that stuff. The reason it came back so fast was cause i didnt clean it all the way. there was still some corrosion so it builds back up quick.
remember I didnt have sand paper so I did a quick fix. sorry bro.

My car has been trying to commit auto-suicide too. ever since I've talked about getting a new car, I've had a lot of problems (main problem - random dying) this started round 6 months ago. since I decided to wait 3 more months about a week or two ago, it has quit so far....3 months and hopefully I will have enough to either get an s13 or an mkIII supra.

I had the same problem once, I put some of that red terminal protectant on it and it cleared right up. I am sure everything will be fine.
