getting a newer cav

okay so i have a 93 right now. Having way too many problems with it stalling, etc, nothing cam seem to be solved. I finally have a steady job and so sometime probably next month i'm going to be buying a 2000-2004 cavalier. Somewhere around there, wherever i can get a good deal. So heres the scoop. Is there anything i should be aware about the 3rd gen cavaliers? Also. I have a pretty good stereo setup in my 93, and i have the stock speakers and deck sitting in a box. the front speakers in the 93 are 2 1/2". Are they the same in the 3rd gen? or are they completely different (sorry but im newbish to the new ones). I also have a good deck, and i was wondering if i should just keep the stuff in the car and sell it, or put all the stock stuff back in. Anyways. Thats all the questions i have for now.

2000+'s are excellent in my opinion. You still have the 2200 OHV engine until the 2003's {except late 02's LS only} then it goes to the 2.2 eco DOHC. The eco is def. a better engine but i dont mind the 2200 at all. I think chevy really pulled up their socks after 2000. here is a site i live by, it shows a list of changes for just 2000 alone, im very impressed. If u know a few things about html/urls u can just switch "2000" in the url to whatever year {up to 03?} and gives u complete stats.

I say go for an 03+ and get the Ecotec engine. Also, no the speakers are not the same. The speakers in the 00+ Cavs are 4x6 in the front, and 6x9 in the back. As far as the deck goes, if you don't mind losing your chimes, I'd put the aftermarket deck in it. There is a special harness that you can get that will let you keep your chimes, but its about the $80 range...or at least it was when I had my Cav.

Have to agree on 03+. Heard too many problems with older ones that don't appear on 03+. Maybe they worked some bugs out but in my area I see hundreds of 03+ and rarely an 02-.

I love my cavalier, but their are better cars our there that are more economical and hold value better.


When i get out of college in 2 years, for my grad present to myself i am going to snag a BMW 330 CI or Infiniti G35. Both used of course and with around 30K miles. They both run around 19K if you lookin in the right places.

I have a running tally how much i have into my car including what i paid for it Lets just say, it surpasses $19K in 4 years. My car wasn't built off e-bay ( Not knocking those who are doing such) and i've paid for it. Urethane body kit,2 sets of rims, Full suspension, CF front clip, It all adds up in the end. Its a car loan I myself can afford and still be able to mod it. I'm looking for something where i only need to slam it, tint the windows and put some 19's on her.

I would go lower with some Tein SS coil overs to tuck those 19's, tint the windows, and of course car would have to be artic white :)

I've ran 93 in my car for over a year now. I can't complain tho, I think i used maybe 1 tank last summer. ( Went from 58,989 miles to 59,355 where she's at now) Then filled it up again b4 storage. Now before the criticism starts, its for when i boost the car. As much as i drive this thing, I use a tank a gas per season for the last 2 years. Were going on 3 this year. To the shop to install resonator, body shop to sit for a month to get painted, back to the shop for turbo install over winter. Except this fall she won't get a full tank. Need to drop that for a new plastic tank and a walboro... ;)

I soldered in the wiring to an adaptor I bought at autozone and I still have my chimes and my deck...

Yeah I hear ya cody, I wasted a little over $5,000 on my white 2.2. But the way I see it now is just think of the $19k you'd use for the beamer and think of what you could do to your cav with that....granted it would still be a cavalier

wow lots of posts. lol. Okay. So another question for some sunfire people. 2000 sunfire GT 2.4L twin cam. Are these good cars? any known problems?
Im not a sunfire person, but a co-worker has the GT model and says its great. Comments?

Exactly the same as a Z24 cavalier.. Except with a different body and interior style. The 2.4L engine is notorious for bad water pumps around 80-90K miles. Since they are ran off the timing chain. They are a costly repair job. Thats really the only bad thing i can think about those engines. If you take care of the car, it will take care of you. Oh, and they will spank stock civics.. "No placement for Displacement" ;)
