Alright, it's been about forever since I've made an actual post on any races I've had. As a matter of fact this will be my first official racing post of 07(I know you're all on the edge of your seats with anticipation:grinno:).
So here go's. This happend a little while back and was my first actual race with my new Blue Oval. It was against my good buddy in his 06 SS/SC. I'm all stock still and he's got a CAI, injectors, 2.7 inch pulley, a custum tune w/ raised revs and maybe one or two other little things. We hopped on the freeway after leaving a mutual friend's house and decided to see how my new car stacked up to the modded Cobalt.
So we lined them up at about 60 mph in 3rd gear and he honked us off. I got a bit of a jump on him because he didn't his his throttle nearly as fast as I did, but then he started to make those couple yards back and then as he got to my front fender and he stopped pulling and stayed right there. We kept into it through 3rd and a bit into 4th untill traffic was coming up, when I shut down my front bumper was about 8 feet further than his.
Okay, time for round two. This time our other buddy with a 5 spd Slobalt LS wanted in on the fun (Really didn't see how much fun that would be for him, but oh well.) We let traffic get out much further so that we had more than a half mile of open pavement to play with and this time I honked us off. We had a much more even start this time and to my surprise that little fucker got a half car length of a lead on me within the first 6 seconds of the run. No matter though, because I was gaining back my pride one foot at a time untill I passed him around the 105-110 mph mark. I gained some more space on him and shut down with about a length or so on him. I'd like to tell you what happend to Slobalt LS dude, but I have no fucking clue. It took him about minute to catch us after we shut down and he was made fun of thoroughly.
This next one was much more recent, happening about two weeks ago. Was heading to my buddies place and desided to take the surface streets instead of the highway. Ended up behind some younger guys in a white RSX type S with the massive Type S wing thingy, nice rims, a pretty nice body kit, lowering springs, an exhaust and to top it all off...Honda Integra badges...wtf.
Anywho, there was too much traffic to have any fun with them when I came upon them, so I let them be. But this didn't stop them from zipping through traffic trying to overtake me whenever possible and pretty much driving like asses. Everytime they'd pass me and blast ahead I'd end up right behind or ahead of them at the next light, which was very amusing to me and my girl.
We finally get to our road and it just so happend they wanted that one as well. And as luck would have it, it was open! So I got beside them doing 50 mph or so and just sat there and waited for a sign from them. The driver hits his throttle a bit to put the fear in me, so I double clutched into 2nd to put the fear in him :evillol:. So I sit there next to him with my revs at about 4500 for a few moments before he desides to go. When he finally does make a move, it wasn't pretty. 6,000 rpm and 3rd gear come in an instant and so does 2 lengths. I carried out 3 for just a few seconds which was long enough to put another length and a 1/2 on him and shut down around 75 mph or so.
They never lift off the throttle and pulled a nice fly by and my girl and I have a good laugh. They did however give me a thumbs up that I returned just before they turned off the street.
Sorry these stories are a bit lame and that there aren't any more of them. It's just that no one races me any more now. I guess even with 19 scoops, shiney chrome pipes and a young driver this car just doesn't attract the same kind of attention the SS got.
Maybe if I got a nice wing.....

Well if we're talking about lateral grip, then it's a definate move DOWN... It's like a shopping cart with a bent wheel, but the ability to powerslide on command makes it way more fun than the Cobalt. Overall it is much more car than the Cobalt. But I gotta say, if the Cobalt had been rear drive and didn't have the tendancy to fall apart when you touched it, The Cobalt would have stayed in my garage. It was that good overall.
Oh yeah, Matty...If you've got a Mustang growing on you then you need to go see someone about that. It doesnt sound good.

 Damn Mustangs... they grow on you like Mullets.
Usually at the back of your head where you can't see it untill it's to late like a cancerous growth.
Powersliding = good thing.
Probably the only fun times I had in my Z28... was when the ass was kicked out with opposite lock. All other times, it was spent at the gas pump or being repaired.

You're Camaro never treated you right on one account...you never grew a man enough mullet for the car. Those Camaros are funny about that sort of thing. All it would'a taken was one good Mullet and you and your Camaro would still be a happy couple.
So basically it just boils down to one problem Matty...You're a Mulletless pussy and your car was too manly for you.

I've been trying to get it to the track for about 4 weekends now. Every time I go there's an NHRA meet on sat that shuts it down for fri night drags.
Then this last friday my buddy got married which kept me from the track. But this friday night is the ticket. I wanna get down there before it heats up too damn much. It's already been over 80 out for the last week.
I'd love to his something in the 13.7-13.8 range, but I'll take anything in the low 14's and high 13's for my first time out. Hell, most of the ppl that have a new stang are so pathetic they can't even crack off better than a high 14 second pass.

yeah most new stangs i see at the track are low 14's, i did see one guy with an intake and tune running 13.7's. I hear those engines have alot to gain from just a tune over the factory tune.

That's okay though for most of you fuckers. The highest most of you will see this summer is mid 90's or so. It'll be 115-120 very soon here and my nice black leather won't be so nice any more. My car is going to turn into a people cooker.
And about the intake deal with the new Mustangs, it's true. A $550 intake/tune package can net 28-34 rwhp. That's how crappy the stock tune and intake setup on the Mustangs are. I've heard it's a night and day difference going from stock and then doing that mod as well. Wakes the car up alone the entire rpm band. I was going to do it, but then desided to go for broke and use that lump of money for a saleen twin screw. That should put the car around 370 rwhp with 5 lbs of boost. I'll take it.
Oh yeah, on a side note...I forgot to mention that my buddies Cobalt traps at 104 in the 1320, so I was very happy about pulling away from him in the top end.

I'd wait untill the next update comes along. I've heard they are supposed to up the power on the base GT to 350+. These things bearly compete with the LS1 cars that are 4+ years old, let alone the new L-series motors coming out.
The new Camaro is going to crush me untill I get a blower, and even then all it will take is some bolt-ons for one to crush me again. I think after the first made rush of buyers for the new gen Camaro gets their fill, I'll sell this GT and pick one of those up instead. Then I'll have TWO Camaros...Which means I'll need TWICE the mullet!

I heard that they have scrapped the boss name but not the car. That was the last that I heard. As far as I was reading, they will come out with a 5.0 motor with close to 400HP. That car to me would be the optimum, but I don't know what kind of money I will have when the time comes.
Bulldog, I heard the same things about the new camaros, its sure to be an awesome car. I like the new mustangs better than the last gen camaros personally, they are better looking to me. Not that I dont like the last gen of camaros.

i think they are following through with the boss too, didnt mean to imply they werent. i just havent read anything on it in a while, been busy doing other things. one thing i have to say is that if the new GT will have atleast 350hp, then the boss model i think might get a little more than 400, like 420 or something. cause 350 to 400 doesnt seem like a huge gap to me....

The engine that going to be in the BOSS is called the hurricane. And next year all GT mustangs will have the hurricane. Thats what I read in motor thrend at least.

I've heard the next gen gt will have 380+. It'll need it to compete with the LS2, let alone whatever is coming after the LS2...perhaps, the LS3??? :eek7:

idk but the hurricane is reportedly a 6.2l ohc v8. itll be nice. its not a mod motor like they have now either, new design. my guess is itll be better in terms of potential due to having better design. hopefully itll have VVT. the current mods dont, although they do have a mechanism that is similar to VTEC. except instead of different lobes, then entire cam is moved slightly (yes yours does this bulldog).

I think there already is an LS3, I am pretty sure that is what they are calling the motor in the new V8 impalas/montecarlos/Grand Prix

GM is reportedly in the works for designing a new engine all together. A OHC V8 of large displacement to finally take over the pushrods.
It's about time... if GM can make the power with Pushrods, I'd like to see what they can do with an OHC setup (LT5 anybody?).

The new Boss 302 is already being sold from saleen. It just can't use the Boss 302 nomenclature. Here is the article from Motortrend.com
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupes/112_0703_saleen_ford_mustang/
It should run 12's with an exceptional driver, and mid 12's with drag radials. It would run faster, but it's kinda heavy. It's ridiculously expensive from Saleen, but i'm sure that's because of it's exclusivity for the time being. The mass produced ford model will likely sell in the mid 30's though. I don't think that is soo affordable for a pony car, but eh, i'm sure it will be purchased.
The new Camaro is suppose to be getting a new version of the LS series engine, which will be in the vette also. It's rumored to be a OHV 6.2 liter V8 with 425hp. It won't have a heavy live rear axle, like the old muscle cars. It will have to make due with an independent rear suspension.

The LT5 was actually co-developed with Mercury Marine engines and lotus. It wasn't a GM block at all. This is an excerpt from wikipedia.org
Immediately prior to the release of the second generation Small-Block, General Motors released a largely unrelated engine which also used the LT name. The LT5 was a special engine indeed. It was an all-aluminum 349 in³ (5.7 L) small-block V8, but was entirely different from any of the other Chevrolet 350 engines. The bore and stroke were both different at 3.9 by 3.66 in (99 by 93 mm) instead of the usual 4 by 3.48 in (102 by 88 mm) and it featured a Lotus-designed 32-valve DOHC head. It was hand built by specialty engine builder, Mercury Marine. This engine produced 375 hp (280 kW) and 370 ft·lbf (502 Nm) for the 1990-1992 Corvette ZR-1 and jumped to 405 hp (302 kW) and 385 ft·lbf (522 Nm) for 1993 to its final year in 1995, thanks to cam timing changes and improvements to the engine porting. 1993 also added 4-bolt main bearing caps and an exhaust gas recirculation system. The engine was not used in any other vehicle.

That is valve timimg. It retards and advances the cams timing along the powerband, Advanced gives it more grunt off the line, retarding in the higher rpms gives it more to breath on the top. GM actually has pushrod motors right now that do this. The 3900 series is one of them, I love that new motor.

thats not exactly what i was talking about when i said VVT. im talking about what you usually only see with dohc motors which can slightly adjust each cam individually, or dodge just pulled it off in the viper with a cam-in cam design thats pretty neat on their pushrod v10.
