Cutting welds

So, I was going to replace my catback this summer, but I found out that TSP makes a true-dual system for the LT1 for the same price as the catback I was considering to get. But the problem is that my dumbass muffler shop weled my y-pipe to my passenger side collector. :banghead: Its a slip-fit, so I was wondering if its possible to cut the y-pipe off the collector without ruining the header. I was thinking that I could just get a cut-off wheel and cut the surface of just where its welded and then slip the pipes off each other. Is that possible? Has anyone else tried/done something like this?

I think a angle grinder would be easier to take down the weld, then slip the pipe, may take a little flanaggleing but a cut off wheel, runs much higher rpms and scores more chance of doing damage the the grinder.

Note, this will throw a lot of hot sparks around so plan accordingly.

Sawsal, or whatever they are called.

Use the sawzall to cut the pipe, remove the header and do some surgery on a bench. Just be careful not to wreck the collector, and an angle grinder will be best for the surgery.

Well, the header is not coming off the car if it doesn't have to. It was a bitch to put in, so it will be a bitch to remove. I just wanted to keep it in the car and grind down the welds and remove the pipes.

4 /12" angle grinder

Sawsall :screwy: I knew a guy who wanted a rag top so bad, had a POS Riviera, case of beer and a sawzall, do the math.:disappoin

Angle grinder...I'll keep that in mind.
Won't probably do this for awhile, but just trying to think/plan ahead for the summer. Thanks guys.
