looking at a 944

its a mid to late 80's 944. base, other than leather and motorized sunroof.
it has around 101k on it.
the answers i want are, the sites i've looked at said it gets around 25mpg, is it more or less than that in reality?
he rebuilt the trans-axle, is 8g a lil much for it? the guy put around 8 into the car from the start(he took the seats from my 924) i was hoping to knock it down to around 5g, he's been selling it for over 6months now, no one has taken a bite at it. i have a neon i wanna replace, and te 944 supplies me with what i want: m/t, rwd, reliable, 4cyl, and a hatchback(or liftback).
the car has the following in it, manual trans, mpg indicator, shift light, leather(black), porsche guards red ext. power tilt roof, and cd player(not hooked up).
i just really wanna know wat is a fair price for it. he spent 8g, but i dnt think anyone would spend 8g on it(it could still use some body work near the front)

Well, the presence of the MPG guage marks it as a 1983 - early 1895 model (so be cautious of the seller if they said it was a later year than 1985). These are the least desirable of the 944s. $8k is absolute top dollar for that vintage 944. It would need to be low miles (it's not), have a very recent timing belt/water pump service, great interior, carpet, seats. You could offer your $8k for this ebay item (170091538764) and almost certainly get it... a car with less than half the miles. I recently paid $1500 for one in great condition except the interior. So, bottom line... check out ebay, traderonline.com, etc and make your offer accordingly. $5k is not unreasonable for a good, but not perfect, 944 of that vintage.

this guy put 8g into the car, the int and ext are perfect, shifter is crisp and good, only thing wrong is red(higher insurance) and rock chips on the front facia

also the reason the guy wants 8 is b/c not only did he sppend the money on it, he boughht with the intention of letting his 17 yr old son using at his first car. they called the insurance company and found out there are many better alternatives for making life cheaper

all I can say is too bad for him. I paid 7,000 for my TURBO 944 and it has less miles than that. If your going to spend that kind of money get a turbo or something else. As far as gas mileage yea 25 might be about right. My turbo gets at least that as long as I drive it soft. As far as them being reliable... eh I dont know about that. I mean mine has been pretty good BUT I dont use it as my daily driver

eh it's hard to make a a porsche in good shape for cheap, he did a really good job, i feel almost bad offering 5g

Its your money so I cant tell you what to do but I think thats still too much. If you feel bad buy someone elses thats a better deal.

8k is fine for a turbo in great shape but way too much for any NA 944. I paid $2000 dollars for my 84 and have put a ton of miles on it. I neglected to do the timing belt and eventually had to rebuild the head. I have cince tehn put a used trans in it and replaced the water pump. the car is a great daily driver and I wouldnt let it go for less than $3500 and it is not cosmeticly in the greatest of shape, but mechanicly it is sound and I would drive the car anywere.

well there's another one for sale, relly 2 others, but one needs work, i've already had fun working on a 924.
the other on is black(not as much on insurance) and it'a leather a working c/d player, and i think a 1988. and it's all of 2500 but like 150k on it.
thet original car that i'm posting about, the guy is getting desperate to sell, he even put a sticker on it saying low miles(not gonna help with two civics with 50k sitting next to it.
that and where i live in new jersey, 944's are really common so are boxters, the only rare one's are the cheyenne

Believe it or not insurance companies don't care what color the car is. There isn't one part of the price that is based on paint color.

As far as paying 8k? I wouldn't even consider it. That's way too much no matter how good it looks. 5k maybe, but I wouldn't pay over 4k myself.
