got a new car, no longer driving the chick magnet GEO

I got a new car, well not new but it's new to me. Anyway, it's a 2001 Toyota MR2 Spyder.
I got the car February 24 and I didn't even plan to get a car that day. What happened was my dad and I were out to look at Honda Civics, Toyota Corrollas, ect. I'm in college and looking for an economy car and figured those would be good starts.
So we first went to a Honda dealer and looked at new Civics. They were too much for my budget so they directed us to the used car lot. We went over there and saw the MR2 just sticking out of all of the other cars. It was red tagged and around the same price as the used Civics I was looking at. My dad and I thought it was cool but thought the insurence was too much so we went on.
Well I looked at a 2003 Civic that wasn't bad and told them I'd think about it. After that we went to a Toyota dealer and looked at Corollas. It was pretty much the same thing on payments and insurence. After that my dad told me we should go back to the Honda dealer get an insurence quote on the MR2, he said we'll never know until we try.
So we go back and get a quote. It would be a little over $100 cheaper every six months to insure on the MR2 than it would be a Honda Civic or a Corolla. Now lets add to the fact it's the same price as the Civics and Corollas as its been red tagged.
Now before I bought the car one question came up, warrenty. All of the Civics and Corollas still had the original factory warrenty on them, the MR2 did not. So doesn't that close the deal? No.
The original warrenty on the MR2 was a 5 year 36,000 mile. Now the years were up but the car had 34,000 miles on it so it was under the original warrenty limit. Since that was the case I was able to get it extended even though the years were up, the miles weren't. So for an extra fee I was able to extend the original warrenty for an extra 5 years or 75,000. It isn't just a driveline warrenty though, it's bumper to bumper. So now the warrenty won't expire until 2011 or after 109,000 miles.
So with the price, insurence, and warrenty...SOLD!
Here is my new car. Yes ladies and gentlemen, Muscletang, a Mustang guy, bought Supra's little brother, and he loves it.

Just the TLC. I'm not looking for performance, just something to get me from A to B. This will do that and make me look cool so I'm happy.

Well it's hard with all of the Indians shooting arrows at you from the cliffs as you drive by but you get use to it and learn to duck.
Also it gets scary at night because taking the backroads you can hear the dueling banjos very clearly.

I won't give out the exact number but it was under 14. I guess you could say I was in the right place at the right time. It was one of those deals that hits you in the face and you have to pause and ask, "is this for real?"

Nifty ride, I like the earlier turbo MR2's but that is because I am a more performance oriented person. I bet it handles like its on rails though.

Congrats on the street legal go kart! Is that red interior I see? Lucky bastard, red interiors make me wish the government would give black people reprimands for the slave years so I could afford a car with a sweet interior like that.
Drop it a bit so you won't look like a girly man when you're driving it

Damnit, I have to go watch Chappelle's Show now for that one skit.

That's impossible :smokin:
Besides everybody that rides it complains about it being too low as it is. Also I don't want to lower it any more because I'm afraid some of the places I drive will scrape really bad.

congrads on the new ride. i use to want one, but then i head its hard to find parts. and it's kinda hard to get out of at times, but i like them otherwise.
they had one up for sale around here for 12k, and it had 90+k on it if i remember right.
its just sad that toyota isnt producing them anymore, as now the miata holds the crown. but then pontiac released the gxc or w/e and saturn has the sky.
if i remember right, someone did a k20 swap into the mr2, and with basic custom boltons, runs 12s. it's all in the rwd. its in a super street mag if im correct.

Make one sit on the other like in that movie Batman Begins. :grinyes:
Thats a weird complaint from people to say its too low just from riding in it. I can imagine that coming from someone thats tall as hell, has a bad cause of arthritis or overweight. A few times in the past when I was driving late at night on the highway, I got curious to see how low to the ground I am, so I held my door open and it was surprising to see that I was probably less than 8 inches from damn near sitting on the pavement.
From the looks of the front end, it doesn't hang lower than the rest of the body, so I'd imagine you'd be fine with a slight drop. My front bumper sticks alot lower than the rest of my body, and I only scrape if I approach a dip the wrong way, which is at a 90 degree angle. If you pull into a big dip (i.e. a driveway or exiting a parking lot), if you go into it at an angle so that one wheel goes through the hump before the other, you'll almost never scrape.
