acceleration noise & excessive fuel comsumption

Hi - newbie here. I have a 94 cavalier and it's making a strange ticking noise when i accelerate. it doesn't do it when idiling or when accelerating lightly. i've also noticed that my fuel consumption has almost doubled...any idea's?? I just had new spark plugs and wires installed and a new fuel filter, air filter, oil filter/change and thermostat...i've spent a lot of $$ and am still having problems - can anyone help me?

Could be a coulpe of thign i can think of right now like the knock sensor or timeing issue or even low on oil. As a last could possibly be a collasped lifter hard to diagnosis with out seeing and hearing it. But there is my 2 cents

Did it do it before you had the parts replaced or was that an attempt to correct the problem?

Fuel injector cleaner might help diagnose the issue. Sounds like injection issue.
