Has anyone received a similar service report:
"Customer states oil drain plug stripped out. Oil pan stripped and drain plug had heli coil on it. Advised customer that proper repair was to replace oil pan $1205.95 plus tax."
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Joe

A very common occurance when you don't do your own oil changes. Is the helicoil posing a problem?, if so, your only options are to: Install a fumoto or fram sure drain, drain valve and hope it doesn't leak at the pan. Or replace the pan with a new or used one.

Thanks, Joel.
The problem is the Dealer, where I bought the car in June, in addition to advocating a new pan, is all-but-saying that my private mechanic stripped the thread during an oil change. I don't believe that he did.

I bet that pan drain was partially stripped out before you bought the truck. If it were mine, I'd leave the helicoil and thread in a fumoto drain valve. That way you wont have to disturb the treads, only open/close the valve to do an oil change. Fumoto's use a nice big thick nylon type washer.
