Then feel free to start it up. Just be ready to pay the price.
I suggest you watch some Gumball 3000 videos, those guys race cross country and they get busted all the time. It's hard to keep something like that "underground".

First off, you got to have a cool name like Goldberg.
Then, you've got to be bald. Bald is cool.
Then, you've got to have money. Actually... you just need money to get anything started.

you'd be better off entering the Silver State Classic Challenge. it's 90 miles through Nevada on 2-line highway.
chance are, you have not racing experience and you'll go too fast, crash, and get killed.
but it's all up to you.

what did that do for ya? didn't that just blow your mind?

on a serious note, i've heard of nothing. i see no point in it. yes the experience is nice, but just a regular road trip will work fine.

the point is meeting up with all the other car enthusiasts and checking out their cars and the experience. its not all about the race. like if you go on the gumball, your going to look at the competitors rides as well as race it. its like an enthusiasts dream.

if you're so keen to "race accross states" go do it. no-one in the world will just tell you about underground events.
they're underground, the point is that few people know. little awareness means little attention. and so far, you come accross as someone who'd be told about an event, and then go tell all their friends about it, and they'd tell other people and so on.
you're 17, if you were to get into the street racing scene, you'd probably end up getting killed. it happens all too often. people don't know their limits, so they exceed them and it blindsides them and that's their life over.
besides all that, a cross-state race is partly endurance. do you know your car inside-out. could you fix a failing differential? what if your timing chain snapped?
you can't just enter a cross-state race, it doesn't work like that. you can't just ask about a race, enter it and start. you need to prepare, counter for fuel costs, damage, repairs, parts failures etc..
you've got a long time yet before you're even close to ready.

A cross state race in MO would last all of four hours. Hop on 70 in STL and ride all the way out to KC. A year ago, me and one of my buddies were bored at three in the morning, so for shits and giggles, we drove to KC, and back, on a single tank. Its not that hard. If you wanna do a cross state race, just get some buds, decide on a day, and then go. Thats it. Your not gonna get all those guys with the bad ass cars just to race from STL to KC. But anyways, good luck, and if you do decide to do it, I'll be watching out for you assholes on 70.

pretty much, yes.
considering i'll be 18 next week, i know that young people don't know their limits. and it comes back to punish them. so i think entering a cross-state race at 17 is nothing but trouble. i know plenty about cars, working on them at college, working with friends who are in the business of building race cars etc.. i have a fair amount of practical and "written" knowledge, but i know that a cross-state race is out of my league.
so yes, i do think you'd go out there all guns blazing, do something stupid and get hurt. why? because i've seen it so many times. i've seen countless road accidents in and around where i live (London) where under 18s have been killed in car accidents because they were being stupid.

it's called stereotyping. i said it because too many people don't know their limits, and from what i've seen most people who are 17 (which here is the minimum driving age) and race, do something wrong. how do i know? because i've done it myself, put myself in danger and very narrowly missed injury.
i've walked past car 3 car accidents over here and heard the medics say "time of death.." just after they arrived. i lost a very dear friend of mine when he lost control of his evo and hit the back of a semi trailer. he died in hospital 3 hours later, he was in intensive care on life support.
he was only 20, he was an organ donor and carried a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) card. because he hated seeing people who needed organs dying when he went to the hospital to see his uncle.
you know why it pisses me off with people so young talking about racing accross state, on the street or just "stupidly" sometimes?
because i can't bear seeing young people get killed like that. a parent should never have to bury their child. try and see if from my perspective, i know you don't see it how i do, but under it all i'm trying to protect people sometimes. i won't get a driving licence yet because i'm too scared i'm going to kill myself. i'm also on the organ donor list because of that.
so there you go, that's why i said it.
sorry for how i was earlier, but recently i've been on painkillers, depressed and constantly thinking of death. and that scares me.

My friend, you are far from being ok. When someone says they have been thinking about death thats very serious.
You might want to seek help. I think anyone in here would be more than happy to listen to you and try to help you not feel like you do.
I think maybe you should try a dif. medication than the one your taking. Talk to your doctor about it. I have had the unfortunate opportunity to bury 3 of my friend due to suicide in my 33 years of life. 2 of them were brothers and died 3 years apart.
In any case I only know a little about cars all though I have been fascinated with racing forever now, but I know alot more about life than alot of you younger guys and have been through way more shit.
I take things like this seriously and would like to offer myself as someone that will listen to you and try to help you. AF has offered me alot of help and maybe I can return the favor....
