Hi all,
Does anyone see any problem going 5,000 miles inbetween oil and filter changes.
I use Mobil One oil and filter and it still looks new at 3,000 miles.
Thanks,
M Karns

synthetic oils are great because they allow greater distances between oil changes. the thing is is if you have a new car, baby it for the first 10000. after that you can go alot longer even with regular oil. just check it to make sure it aint dirty or low. i personally mix 1 quart synthetic with 4 quarts regular to help stretch it further.

If you are using sythetic oil and lots of highway driving you should be able to go 5000 miles or more between oil changes. Just keep the oil level up.

I ran mobil 1 for 7500 miles(changed the filter once around 5000) and sent the oil off to be analyzed. It still had plenty of protection left, as far as additives. I do nearly all highway driving, however..

Is mixing oil a good idea? Cuz logically sometimes the chemical additive of each oil are different and may react harmful if they are mixed together. A solution is to use a semi synthetic oil rather than mixing. I use Total Oil Semi-Synthetic (Like Mobil One. also recomended by the dealer) SAE 10W-40. My Aveo never experience any problems, and it runs smooth to the next oil change.
But yes, I believe that full synthetic are better (but more expensive), so why pay more if you have almost the same quality?
But note this, don't be lazy to change your oil filters, cuz your its durability is not as good as the oil itself, you know...

Synthetics on normally aspirated vehicles can go for 10k miles easily. However, you should stick to a 3-5k schedule for the first 15k miles of your new car to ensure all the metal flaking from a new engine is removed. You might also want to invest in a Fumoto oil valve as it makes oil changes easier and neater to do -- get the one with the nipple and you just attach a hose, sending the oil to a jug without any mess.

I suck the oil out from the top.
I find I can get much more oil and its cleaner and faster.
The only messy part is the filter........
