hey I just picked up a 1992 toyota MR2, with the 2.2 NA engine.
i was wondering what list of mods would be needed to safely turbo the engine and some good bang-for-your buck brands would be great as long as theyre reliable. and also, engine swapping for the turbo 2.0 isnt possible because there are very few mr2s around here, being wisconsin and the mr2 being rwd and midengine, not good in snow...plus id like the better take off of the 2.2 with the hp of the turbo. I am willing to spend some extra cash to get all the mods neccesary so that the car wont explode doin 100 mph lol, and will be street legal.
almost forgot to mention, the engine has less than 70k miles on it and was kept asa collectors car, driven first by a middle age woman on the east coast, then by a toyota collector (who kept everything stock), and i got it pretty cheap because he doesnt find it practical to store it for winter anymore (car has never seen snow and is rust free)

The 2.2 engine (5SFE) is an economy engine.
It's not built for big horsepower numbers.
Although a few people have successfully turbo'ed it,
many, many more have blown them up trying.
Even if you do succesfully turbo it, you will seriously be restricted
by the head on that engine as it is not designed to flow a lot of air.
If you are serious about the project, there are several write-ups on www.mr2oc.com.
good luck,
