kn intake???

a few years ago i put an intake on my civic for about $65. i'm thinking about putting one on my 02 z28 but the thing is $300??? damn... i'm not trying to be cheap but is there really going to be a difference worth that much for someone just looking for a little extra acceleration? there are no other mods on my car and it is an automatic.

will the lid and filter work just as well as a whole new set up?

I have a K&N on my Z. It helps, but not all that much. It is about the cheapest upgrade you can put on. The only thing you need to be careful of if you do this is oiling the filter. If you over oil it, it will suck the oil up into the MAF and can coat and damage the MAF sensor, which is around 3 to 4 hundred dollars.

if you do a search on the internet you will find that there are a lot of people who say that k&n filters dont gain anything over regular paper filters. And if they do its like 1 or 2 hp.

But if you want cheap then go to www.ls1tech.com (http://www.ls1tech.com) and shop around the classifieds section for a used lid for 60 bucks or so and decide if the k&n filter is worth it to you.

or get creative and make yourself an intake.

Along with that and a SLP lid or equivalent will be a good mod for the car. Better air flow more power and fuel economy.

K&N filters aren't worth the money IMHO. I purchased a whisper lid, Fast Toys Ram air, and use WIX paper filters. They are cheap catch the same amount of contaminates the K&N does. I buy a new filter every year but then again my car sees less than 3k miles per driving season.

From what I hear from 98+ people, whisper lid and fast toys ram air is the way to go.
