Regal FOB Not Working

Hi,
I'm new to this group.
My fianc'e has a '99 Regal LS, and the key FOB
isn't working all of a sudden. I put a new battery
in it, so that's not the problem.
Can someone tell me what could be the problem with the
FOB not working? Could it be the receiver? Where is the receiver?
Thanks,
Steve

Welcome to AF.
Have you tried the remote keyless entry programming procedure. See link below.

I know the procedure for a '99 Regal works because I just replaced the lithium button battery in my wife's remote a few months ago. Also, make sure the battery is a CR2032 and the polarity is correct.

When you replace the battery you usually have to hold LOCK and UNLOCK on the GM remotes for 7 seconds to resync it to the vehicle. (be close to the car when doing this)

Onblsht,
I did try the 7 second thing, to no avail.
Just in case I need to know, do you know where the receiver is located in the car?

Onblsht,
Do you know where the receiver is located in the car?
Steve
Left side of dash,
Right side of instrument panel.
Hope that helps. Thats where my book says.
Good Luck

What makes you think it is the RCDLR module? Very rare for that part to fail. Have you tried another remote keyfob? In addition to the RCDLR module you have a body control module (BCM) that is the brain of remote keyless programming and the multi function alarm and lock capabilities.

Well I'm hoping the info in post #2 takes care of the problem, but if not, then I have to start checking elsewhere. I have 2 FOBs, one is a spare and has never been used. So I'm assuming after I try to re-program both FOBs, and it still doesn't work, the problem is in the receiver. Where is the BCM located?
My manual doesn't mention anything about the door locks, other than the slaves in the doors. What brand of manual do you have? I think I need a more inforative manual.

Hopefully it works. Also, the 7 second sync procedure in the Regal owner's manual may be wrong. The door locks do not cycle but the horn will beep 3 times. But that may depend on how the door locks are programmed. I get 3 horn beeps.
I'd try the spare keyfob. I have 2 with each of my Regals and even though one may be bad the other should work.
The BCM is located under the driver's side of the dash right by the emergency brake. Just remove the kick panel and you will see the electrical connectors at the bottom of the module. It is the bigger of the two. The other is the DRL module.
To get to the RCDLR receiver you must remove the IP bezel, IP cluster and radio because it is located way in the center of the dash and mounted to that metal cross beam that supports the dash.
I have the GM Factory Service Manual from Helm, Inc. Good luck.
