97 Camaro SS boiling over

A short trip down to the corner market and back will cause my 97 SS to gurgle and coolant boils over and out of the overflow tube. The temp gauge doesn't go past straight up and I still have this problem. Replaced the water pump and thermostat last July. My mechanic says I need to have the radiator taken out and cleaned or replaced. Does anyone have any other suggestions, or should I just bite the bullet and take it to a radiator shop?

Definately sounds like something is plugged up. I'd try the radiator first as its probably the easiest part of the cooling system to remove, and thus the easiest to service.

Thanks! That's what I'll do.

have you tried the inexpensive approach yet by simply flushing it out and observing the inner fluids coming out? that observation will tell alot for starters. upon doing that observe the fluid action upon refilling at the top of the radiator, any turbolance? it sounds like a constricted flow zone most likely in the radiator, pay attention to the color of the coolant and the movement as well when the themostat opens, if it is opening.... good luck......

one more thing, the cap, if the cap is not holding the pressure the boiling point is lowered, check the cap, it is also an inexpensive start, a few bucks versus a hundred plus for a radiator

1) pressure cap
2) are you running proper amounts of antifreeze?
3) are your fans turning on? (at the right temps?)
4) i think your temp. sensor is malfunctioning, get a new one..
5) if your temp sensor isnt malfunctioning, its because your temperature is so high that you lost so much water the temp sens cant sense it..
