Which Amp?

I got a friend who's looking to sell his two 12" rockford subs in a box, and I was wondering what kind of amp would suffice to power them. He said that they are 400 watts each. I'm not looking to spend any more than 250. Also, would it be possible to wire the amp to my factory receiver?

You could wire the Factory HU to an amp, if you used High Level In, or if you got some converter that converted the High Levels into RCA (I have seen them somewhere, but I dont remember). As for an Amp, I would look into a JBL 1200.1, just be careful with the Gains!

I got an MTX 6304 brand new on ebay for $220. Its not as clean as my old phoenix golds amps, but its pretty clean and makes a ton of power. Crutchfield sells it for $399. At the time I bought mine the guy was selling a few more so you might be able to find one on there still.

you can buy the converter from Wal-Mart that takes your speaker wire and turns them into RCA's.

they aren't too good though .... the cheaper ones tend to lose bass - which kind of defeats the purpose

I just got some more information about the subs. They are only 200w rms, but i guess that rockford's are underrated from the information I have gathered from various forums. Does the underrating also apply to rockford's amps? If so, I was thinking of getting a punch 200m, and wiring the two subs in parallel to get 200w out of it. If that isn't enough power, then I was thinking about a profile amp, but I'm a little reluctant because I have heard nothing of them. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

well if you just want an easy cheap fix, it will work... and some people might not be able to tell the difference. years ago my friend had a pair of punch's with a boss amp, i didnt know anything so i liked it, cause it had boom. but profile, boss, jensen, legacy and a couple others are basically the fleemarket versions of everything else.

I would take an average pair of subs with a correctly built box over a pair of really good subs in a "bad" box anyday. Same with amps, they all sound about the same, just that name brands are built better - so they look more solid and generally last longer.
