Hi, I am new to AF as of today and I just wanted to know if there is any point to the insulation on my hood. I can figure out enough to know that it makes my engine quieter but is there any other purpose? Like protection from anything specific. And if I take it off will it make my Bird louder? Please give me your opinions. :)

 Hi, Welcome to AF
The under-hood insulator is to suppress engine fire.
It also protectes the hood paint from any excessive heat.
Have you removed your air silencer yet?

If by air silencer you mean that clunky ol air filter box the car came with, Yes I have put the K&N Filtercharger kit in it. I have done alot more to my car also.

I don't think you'll notice any more or less noise from the engine compartment without it. You might save a little weight by removing it, and you're not losing any real fire protection by removing it. Only downside would be possible discoloring of the paint on the hood.
