New planet discovered beyond Pluto...

So, is that a definant or not? There has always been speculation and even proof, but they never actually officially stated whether they were naming it as a planet.

Why do they always feel we won't accept it as a planet or something unless they name it something unpronouncable?

Yeah, there just isn't something quite right about 4 consecutive vowels in a word.

The problem is if we start to consider all the Kiuper belt objects planets we will end up with a bazilion new ones. What next Oort' s reservoir comets will be planets.

BTW i claim copyright on the word bazilion.:D

Anything that size shouldn't be called a planet. To damn small.

I like the name. But then again I'm part Native American (read: Indian).

I remember hearing about the existence of something beyond Pluto in my Senior year of high school in Geoscience, but I don't think it was named at the time, or even really confirmed. But we're talking about 3 years ago that I remember this from.

Basically what you are remembering from highschool is that they did some gravitational measurements and came out that there is another mass in the solar system. I think they wre looking for a mass of a full sized planet. This is just another piece of ice from Kuiper like Pluto and charon most probably are. And there is a high possibility that the gravity observation they made for the previous theory are wrong.
