91 Cavalier 2.2l Heater issue?

Hey guys, this morning i started my car up and i tried to defrost my windows when i relized my heater was not working at all. It was working properly yesterday, then today it wasnt. This is the first issue i have had with the heater in this car. I changed my starter friday but even yesterday my heater and defrost were working properly. I can always get my a/c light to come on anytime, but today it just didnt want to. Idk what the issue could be, i took a quick look at the vaccum lines to see if that could be it, but it didnt seem to be that. Anyone got any suggestions. :banghead:

Thanks
Casey

Did you check the fuses ? and the electrical connections at blower motor

fuse was blown, replaced then the new one blew as well as soon as i turned on my heater. Could there be a possible issue with wiring somewhere leading to the heater box? In which case i would have to take the heater control out to look. Where exactly is my heater blower? I think i read that it was underneath the dash on the passenger side.

*note* this never started happening until yesterday. the day after i put in my new starter.

thanks

There is a short some where. It could be the motor ,however seems odd that changing starter one day then this problem comes up next day. Blower motor on these cars is located in the engine compartment .open the hood look at the firewall left side as you are looking from front of car .it will have 2 wires going to it. Check see if you may have pinched them somewhere. I had a `91 sunbird and I beleive that the fan was on low at all times ,is your `91 Cav like this? And if so does it pop when you turn fan speed up ? You never noticed any squealing or odd noise coming from blower before this did you ?

No noise what so ever, just the sound of air going through the system. I checked all wires and nothing is pinched or showing any reason for a broke circuit. So i suppose the only thing left would be the motor correct? Which hopefully i can pick up a cheap one some where? Im so frustrated with this hopefully it can be figured out somehow! cause right now the (:banghead: icon is looking more and more like me everyday)!

let me know what else i can try. Like maybe taking lil jumpers and testing the motor but running a ground jumper the running a jumper with some juice to see if it runs? idk.

you are losing me here. What do you mean "just the sound of air going through the system" Does the fan speed change if you put it on high or medium? If nothing is happening then you can try jumping the blower motor . to see if it is seized/shorting out .

So i replaced the blower motor today, and rechecked all the wires, and the fuse is still blowing. So i am all out of ideas. Anyone else have any thing else i can try?

so im gonna put in a paper clip in to replace the fuse and look for smoke, and if i see smoke i assume thats not a good thing. at all!

so im gonna put in a paper clip in to replace the fuse and look for smoke, and if i see smoke i assume thats not a good thing. at all! well it`s like this when working on wiring previuosly and frustration sets in because we could not find the short ,out comes the paper clip and bingo where there is smoke there is a problem .

"just the sound of air going through the system" meaning when i turn on the fan speed, I can hear some sort of air going through, almost like its a compression sound of hosing or something. But thats the only sound i can hear, nothing else.

didn`t like the clip thing .........LOL .is there a fuse for A/c circuit ,pull it if there is or disconnect a/c wire at compressor. just guessing here now man sorry

well i got a haynes manual. and started reading about it. Being i replaced the starter there is a wire that has a fusible link. So it is quite possible that the fuse is juiced and could be causing the problem if its connected to the right wires

go to auto parts store and get a resettable circuit breaker ,proper amperage to put in place of fuse. you will have to follow your wiring diagram and start disconnecting and reconnecting stuff untill your breaker quits popping. Is the blower new?

How well does your air conditioner work? I have a 94 cavalier rs

I actually got it fixed. It was the brwn-white wire going into my fuse block that was unplugged and just touching, so it was causing it to short there.

Thanks for the help

Can you tell me why I might be getting cooler air on vent with ac than when its on max?

Sounds almost like a vaccum issue, up to the right of the blower motor, there is a 3 hose connection, make sure all those are on the T and not off. I had that issue happen to me and thats what it was. If that doesnt work, let me know im sure i can find the answer for you

Well,I have to admit that there is a plastic vacumm line thats disconnected and cannot figure out where it goes. I dont know if it goes to the ac or not! I wish i had another cavalier to compare.

i can gaurentee that is your issue. If you are looking at the blower motor from the front of the car. Just to the right of it you should see a T connector where there will be 2 hoses going to it. When in actuality there should be 3. so all you have to do is plug that hose you have into the empty spot on the T. That should do it for you. If not let me know and i will see if i can find out what tube you are speaking of. That way i can find where it goes on my vehicle.

Its worse than I thought, the 2 plastic vacumm lines coming from the vacumm canister aren't even connected anywhere. I may have lost my T-connector. Can I buy another? well it also looks like there is a t-connecter there, but no empty spot, but the one that should be empty has a plastic vacume line in it where it looks like it was split.
