plugs + wires?

Hi. I was wondering if it is recommended to change the plug wires and the plugs at the same time or does it matter which one i switch out first? and also how often do you have to change them? thanks

The new plugs I have now but the wires aren't coming in untill monday =/

The only reason you'd really need to change the wires is if you're upgrading, they're damaged, or they're just really really old. And its perfectly fine to go ahead and put your new plugs in while you wait for the new wires.

As for how long to change your plugs, I'm not really sure, I always changed mine when I "felt" like it was time. I think I remember people saying placing them every oil change would be suffecient.

I agree. As for change interval, if your DSM is turbo then probably every other oil change is fine. If your N/A, you could probably go 10,000 miles inbetween plug changes. Just make sure you gap them properly. Wires you probably will never need to replace again.

I replace mine every time I change the oil. Just make sure you gap them properly and only use NGK, non-platinum plugs.

I think its something about the electrode breaking under boost, and that platinum isn't as good of a conductor as copper is. Correct me if I am wrong.

I love how everyone assumes you are turbo. Which is it? If your N/A, platinums are ok but not recommended.

yes a 95 awd tsi, large 16g turbo, 92 head/tranny. So if i use the NGK g-power platinum spark plugs will something go wrong with the car? or will the performance just be crap? thanks to everyone who has helped me

The platinum retains heat longer than the copper style plugs which keeps them from fouling as quickly. It's also not as good of a conductor as copper. The added heat leads to a "hot spot" within the cylinder. This can cause a lot of problems, including knock under boost, hesitation, poor idle, lost power, etc.

You can pick up NGK's for about $1.50/each, so I would definately ditch the Platinum in favor for some copper NGK's.

Update: When i had the platinum plugs in the car bogged like CRAZY when i tried to boost, i switched it back to copper ones and now its fine. the funny thing is when i put the copper ones back in the rpm idle is a bit weird (normal idle 500-550 but jumps to 1.5-2k every now and then) didn't seem to do that with the platinum ones o.O

I'm waiting for my new plug wires to come in, ive been runnin stock plug wires yet the car is a bit upgraded (could cause some problems?) it has a large 16g turbo and some other things.

I always buy the really expensive Irridium ones

I wish Autozone would sell NGK's, I've used Denso Iridiums for the longest and they seem to work really good.
