my battery light keeps coming on when I drive. I can sit there and max out the rpm's in nuetral and no light but as soon as i start moving it comes on idles high while i move and after I sit for a minute and the rpm's settle to the normal idleing point. the alternator is fine the battery is fine I've checked every thing does any one have any clue what it could be? I think its the pcm but i'm not sure. Please Help!!!

Intermittant failure of the alternator.
Loose belt/worn tensioner.
Faulty connections.

When the battery light in the dash comes on the charging system drops out and I drain the battery. I have tried the following and after each step it returns after driving a few blocks.
Installed a new alternator $148, light still comes on... Checked cleaned all connections, replaced all fuses, belt is tight, alternator is charging at 14.6 vdc, 3000 rpm 14.9vdc, Never saw it go above 15vdc. At what point does the pcm/ecu what ever it is called trip out on overvoltage? I'm thinking if it's charging this high at approx 900rmp at higher rpm it could spike over the 15vdc causing the asd to open the charging circuit relay. In the Hanes manual it shows the ASD relay in the charging circuit, I suspect it is opening upon an overvoltage condition? I did also switch the relay with one from the high speed fan. They are the same p/n. Problem is still there. I also read that there is a battery temp. sensor that can cause this but don't see it in the circuit? I guess I'll have to pull the front bumper off and do some testing on that?
If I get the PCM from salvage yard does it have to be reconfigured for my vin# ? And is that where the odometer milage reading stored?
Thanks for any input you may have Matt

ok after cleaning all the connections again the battery light no longer comes on and the battery doesn't drain anymore but every once in a while after the car is warm if I come to a stop the rpm's go up to 4000 and all the light's flicker. I think it's the regulator in the computer wich is why I asked about the computer in the last post. Any thing you can tell me would be a great help. thanks Matt

:banghead: Problem solved. After sending the pcm for a bogus repair and a $158. charge to do so... I reinstalled it to have the same problem show up 50 miles from home. $160 towing bill... :newburn:

I started to recheck all connections. At the Alt. plug I gave a tug on the bottom wire Green w/orange stripe, and it slipped the skin off the BROKEN wire about 3/8-3/4" out from the connector. This wire was not kinked and looked brand new. This was the cause of the whole problem. Matt
