I had the check engine light checked at Auto Zone today. I saw for myself that "Manufacturer Auxiliary Emissions" is what came up on the machine. No code, just that. Any idea what it means? The Auto Zone guy said he had no clue. I am getting 11 mpg and it is a 97 4.0 4X4.

Never heard of that reading but it does not mean it does not exist. I don't know what kind of OBD test equipment Auto Zone uses but perhaps a more sophisticated diagnostic equipment used by service mechanics may shed some light on your problem.

try a different autozone if you can. maybe that reader is broke. we need the EXACT code number the ones listed in bold and underlined because this is what is listed for Auxiliary Emission Control OBDII DTC’s
and some involve replacing the part but there is too much to just guess also it could be as cheap and easy as replacing the gas cap because that code is listed also

Took it to another mechanic and it came up EVAP like I said about a year ago. That leaves P440 to P455. I have replaced the gas cap. Also the Purge Solenoid and all hoses in the emissions. Went to the Ford Dealership and they tried to sell me a new Ranger...... like I'm going through this again. Ford said the engine was worn, it has 123,000 miles.

123,000 miles is not worn.... that is just broke in. you should have 70,000 miles before need for a new engine (5 years) try replacing the dpfe sensor to the plastic one.

I changed the DPFE last year. Also the fuel pump in the gas tank. That was reccomended by Ford also, cost $500 and didn't fix it. For some reason the "Check Engine" light is coming on and giving me 11mpg. I do have 31's on the truck, but really think it's the engine. :banghead: I'm about ready to trade it in and let someone else suffer! Problem is, I have put so much money in it so far I hate to lose what I have put into it.

how ever i have a community that consists solely of 4.0 rangers. see if they can help. they will know about the 4.0 then i do
