88 B2200 running hot

I just bought a 88 B2200 and it runs good around the side streets (Around the first line) but when on the hiway it gets hot (around the upper line) any ideas. Thanks BB

Same thing happens on my B2300. The engine doesn't like prolonged experience at high speeds.

(1) A 1988 B2200 is Japanese-made and a B2300 is a Ford Ranger, completely different.
(2) I have an '88 B2200 Cab Plus in Arizona with AC, and running on the highway at 75 mph with AC on and 115F outside doesn't bother it. However, in 2003, I needed to go to Las Vegas, and the temperature needle had been creeping up, so I bought Prestone radiator flush and went through that whole procedure, and also changed the thermostat. That took care of it, don't know (or care) if one only would've helped by itself. Since it's getting hotter at highway speeds as opposed to "in-traffic", you can rule out the fan clutch for this. It's also possible a radiator flush won't do enough and you may need a new or rebuilt radiator, depending upon past owners' maintenance habits.
