i have the whole episode of that. my jaw just drops everytime i watch it. Mr slow hits 255. thats just amazing. i think hitting 130 is enough for me, for the time being.

wonder if the new viper or the sc'd corvette could do it, given the right gearing....

Possibly, however not likely, and I guess only time will tell, though... :smokin:

I thought it was 253...I don't care what anyone says, a Veyron is NOT faster than a Formula 1 car.

Actually, it really is.

See, the Bugatti is designed for highspeed cruising down long stretches of road with no bends or elevation changes. (Straight and flat)

Top Speeds

Top speeds are in practice limited by the longest straight at the track and by the need to balance the car's aerodynamic configuration between high straight line speed (low downforce) and high cornering speed (high downforce) to achieve the fastest lap time [3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formula_One_car#_note-2). During the 2006 season, the top speeds of Formula 1 cars are a little over 300 km/h (186 mph) at high-downforce tracks such as Albert Park, Australia and Sepang, Malaysia. These speeds are down by some 10 km/h from the 2005 speeds, and 15 km/h from the 2004 speeds, due to the recent performance restrictions (see below). On low-downforce circuits greater top speeds are registered: at Gilles-Villeneuve (Canada) 325 km/h (203 mph), at Indianapolis (USA) 335 km/h (210 mph), and at Monza (Italy) 360 km/h (225 mph). During the V10 era the top recorded speed on track was 372 km/h (232 mph) at Monza in 2005.

Away from the track, the BAR Honda (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_American_Racing) team used a modified BAR 007 (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=BAR_007&action=edit) car, which they claim complied with FIA Formula One regulations, to set an unofficial speed record of 413 km/h on a one way straight line run on 6 Nov, 2005 during a shakedown ahead of their Bonneville 400 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonneville_400) record attempt. The car was optimised for top speed with only enough downforce to prevent it leaving the ground. The car, badged as a Honda (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_F1) following their takeover of BAR at the end of 2005, set an FIA ratified record of 400 km/h on a one way run on 21 July 2006 at Bonneville Salt Flats (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonneville_Salt_Flats) [4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formula_One_car#_note-3). On this occasion the car did not fully meet FIA Formula One regulations, as it used a moveable aerodynamic rudder (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudder) for stability control, breaching article 3.15 of the 2006 Formula One technical regulations which states that any specific part of the car influencing its aerodynamic performance must be rigidly secured [5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formula_One_car#_note-4).

Haha, I hate to do this to you, but in the article it say the Honda F1 car does 413kph, which equals 256.626mph, just slightly more then the Veyron. So the Veyron isn't as fast as an F1 car set up for top speed.

It also depends on what you mean by fast. Top speed is nice, but there are next to no tracks where the Veyron would be able to use all of that speed. A lighter weight car like an Enzo, Carrera GT, CCX, Zonda F, McLaren F1 (one of the racier ones, not the standard), or the upcoming Caparo T1 should be able to beat the Veyron pretty much anywhere. Cornering speeds and breaking is where F1 cars really show their might.

I'm sorry, but I still don't like the Veyron.

That caparo looks like it could be a road legal F1 car

Yes, but the article also states that the car was setup specifically for top speed only with just enough down force to keep the car from leaving the ground.

No F1 car will ever be set up like that in race trim. Plus, it's an unofficial record so it holds little weight in the arguement as to where the Veyrons speed is official. Although, arguebly you have to put the Veyron into 'race mode' to make it go that fast and it's in the same trim as the F1 where it's got just enough down force to not leave the ground to go that fast. 99% of the time, F1 cars are designed and prepped for speeds under 200mph. They just don't have the room on the tracks for much faster.

Either way you look at it... F1 cars are still stupidly fast in all directions (acceleration, deceleration, lateral acceleration). Where as the Veyron is only fast in one.
