2000 Grand Prix GT

Today I noticed that some of that overlapping metal was coming up underneath the drivers side door. I can only speculate what happened, but obviously something got under there to bend it or another event caused the metal to warp. Only thing I can think of is that I had to dig my car out of the snow when it became stuck, so maybe a piece of shovel got up in there.

I figure the best solution maybe to just get a rubber mallet and pound the piece down flush (the best I can).

Only problem is getting the area underneath dry and clean. I live in the Midwest and we are going through an extreme melting period, so there is likely salt water getting up in there which is bad for metal.

Any suggestions or insight?

Thanks
