we were going down the highway and it just stalled out and wouldnt restart, so we took it to a shop and they said timing belt so we got a new one and all that, now the problem is entirely new, i just bought a new battery for it and it wont start on its own, it just clicks. all the functions work, it just wont roll over. is this the starter going out? or altanator?

this sounds bad dude... you dont just go to a shop and "get a timing belt"... do you mean serpentine belt?? the rubber belt thatdrives the external pulleys?

you getsome jumper cables... try to boostthe vehicle to start... if it starts, use a VOLT METER from a parts store and place positive to positive and negative to negative... you should be reading a little over 14 volts... if not, replace alternator...

if the car doesnt start when you try to boostit, get a hammer and lightly tap the starter housing... then try to start... ifno luck, try same thing again a few times... if no start, inspect wire going from battery to starter, and look at all the connections at the starter.. make sure they arent all green and crusty looking... if you clean or replace wiring and its no good still, replace starter, then start car and re-test alternator for good measure. Buy a MULTIMETER. every man must own one.
