'95 4.0 knocking noise

i have a knocking noise on my '95 that is not very noticeable when you 1st start it up ,but as you get heat into it it is alot more noticeable.

1st thought it was the rocker arms but the lifters had been replaced maybe 2 months ago, double checked rockers and they are good.

2nd thought was a rod or piston.took the jeep to mechanic and he said it did not sound like a rod or piston, but more like a flex plate.drove jeep up onto the lift and started checking around with the steth. and you could hear the noise alot more from the bell housing(could hardly hear it from the oil pan)so i had the flex plate replaced.needless to say that wasn't it.

so my mech. took the jeep to another mech. he knew to listen to the noise.the 1st thing the other mech. said was a bad flex plate.(did not tell him it had just been replaced until he said that)2nd mech. doesn't think the noise is from the motor either.tranny guy wasn't in to have him look at it.

my only other guess would be the torque convertor but not sure.

anybody know of something else it could be or what else to check?

thanks in advance.

in my experience a flex plate normally causes a snap and not so much of a knock... the noise is usually consistant and not after its warm... usually can hear when you give it some gas

My 95 makes a knocking noise when the torque convertor bolts get loose. About time to tighten them again.

My '98 did the same thing with the loose bolts on the converter. Took ten minutes not knowing what to look for with a flashlight and the job was done.

Don't know what a snap sounds like.. My noises were consistent with the rpm's. (knocks, clicks- fixed)
