*update*
So i sent an email to chevy. I sent them and email asking what size preskers are in an '07 Aveo SVM. I figured this is a good way to get the correct answer without having to take the door and back deck off. I get a phone call back, which i was very impressed with, telling me that they do not have the answer . . . um ok. So i email back asking if anyone else would have the information i need somebody put speakers in my car. I get another phone call back, again impressed that they call back instead of a canned email, GM suggested i go to an aftermarket speaker dealer and they will be able to tell me. HUH . . . ok . . . silly me for trying to go to the sourse

http://www.me-mag.com/installerCentral/pdf/ME0704.pdf try this site. its got pics and such. you gotta scroll down 2-4 pages if i remember correct. but it has spaker sizes and how to remove them. unfortunatley if you have the hatch this wont help you much but like i said it does give speaker sizes for the rear.

I just did mine. If it's anything like the 2006 model, then the Aveo hatch takes a 4" direct mount up front and a special 4x6 size in the rear.
However, you can *easily* modify the front door speaker to a higher quality 6.5" size by using a 1" circular spacer and drilling new holes. Even so, there is very limited depth available so you should use a 6.5" speaker that is under 2" depth. I put Infinity Reference 6012si (shallow mount) in and it's a beaut. It's not hard at all to retrofit. In fact, the hardest part is taking off the door panel. But you would have to do that anyway if you switched to a 4" so might as well make the jump.
In the rear, you can put a regular 4x6" size but you need to trim or bend the speaker mount tabs and use pliers to pull away some of the plastic nibblets off the mount tray, as it's a bit weird in shape. I put in Infinity Reference 6412 4x6. The overall process isn't hard at all though. The entire (rather flimsy) plastic panel comes off with 2 screws so you don't even have to contort your body to install the speaker mounts -- EASY.
Net result is astonishingly better sound quality than the stock speakers. Didn't even cost that much either. I think I paid just a little over $100 shipped for all four speakers.

i just bought those same rear spearkers yesterday, how do you like them? I was thinking the same think about the door speakers. They have 4" in but there is a mounting bracket behind it that has a larger hole pattern. I was looking to put in component speakers in the front. Thanks for the heads up on the depth :)

They play great, good highs especially. You don't realize how bad the stock speakers (this isn't just aimed at the Aveo BTW) are until you get them switched out. The only bad part is you end up getting the 'upgrade bug' and want to work on getting things perfected.
Next on my list will be to get a subwoofer -- I need my cargo space so I will be looking for one to fit under the passenger front seat. By the looks of it, there seems to be decent room under there for one of those powered underseat sub boxes.
Then I'll probably get an amp to drive up the power of the 4 speakers. The Aveo gets kinda loud at freeway speeds and the headunit starts noticeably distorting past 25-30 volume so it could use a boost. I want to keep my stock head unit as it looks nicely integrated with the dash (I have the double DIN mp3 player) and theft is a problem where I live so having a fancy aftermarket unit in plain site wont work for me.

i think that the stock headunit is great (the cd/mp3 player). the only way i would ever replace it is if it broke or whatever. like you said the only thing that truly sux is that after a certain point the speakers gargle really bad.
