idk what kind of power youre hoping to make but that intercooler is overkill and a half for your setup. I'm going to guess that you're making less than 300whp and i'm in that same range (sub350whp range) and i'm running a 28x6x3 because that size is going to minimize pressure drop. If you got a properly sized IC, you'd have better spool and less pressure drop in your system which would make it more efficient....which means more power

CavLCD128
03-12-2007, 02:07 PM
:1: i agree....take a look at the stock SRT intercooler...its half that size

Schister66
03-12-2007, 02:41 PM
i can compare this to something like building a picture frame....if you were needing to put in a small finishing nail into a delicate frame, you would get a small framing hammer because it is properly sized to the job at hand. In this instance, you came with a sledge hammer and want it to work all the same.....it will work, but will also make a mess of things

Derk_eliso
03-12-2007, 03:40 PM
it's also my car and I will do with it what I want...

also, if I ever decide to do engine upgrades, guess what. I don't have to fuck with my intercooler.

Well that's just wonderful then...since you know soooo much about it, have fun. I was merely trying to tell you a few helpful things about your $99 Ebay POS intercooler, but if you dont want to listen, then dont. Obviously you're good at tuning people out because w/ an interior as hideous as the one in your sig, you'd have to learn not to listen....but you do what you want...you have fun doing what you want....:iceslolan

also, if I ever decide to do engine upgrades, guess what. I don't have to fuck with my intercooler.

Dont lie to yourself...you're not going to do any of that stuff...you just bought a big IC because you thought it was cool and you're a ricer...its alright, just dont lie to us about it

I love how the focus of this forum always shifts towards bashing. I did not ask for your help ABOUT my intercooler, I asked to help find pictures about intercoolers on cavaliers. So by providing me with insulting suggestions about MY stuff, is the same as insulting me. I didn't ask for your help about that subject, so your advise is unwanted. but thanks....for nothing

CavLCD128
03-12-2007, 07:12 PM
he wasn't insulting you, just making a suggestion...and hes right by far

you dont need that big ass intercooler and you did only want it because it was so big. its pointless because your gonna make your turbo work twice as hard for the same ammount of pressure. way 2 waste your money and decrease the life of ur turbo...

now before u get ur panties in a twist, im not bashing you either...im just sayin dont get all mad because you dont like advise when its not what you wanna hear ;) and i realize that this thread was not created specifically for your intercooler...but at the same time u posted a pic so u should of been prepared 2 be flamed...

love you

I think the interior looks very nice. I wish I had the time and patience to do that. It is called customizing by the way. Im sure that no one else has a cavy interior that looks like that. Good job on the work eliso. Im rooting for you.

Ever wonder why most 'bolt on' turbo kits come with small intercoolers? because theyre matched to the output of the turbo. When people who have been around the block a few times give advice, its usually a good idea to listen. but whatever

Purdy... I wish Johnny race car didn't shut down. I wanted one built by them with the inlet and outlets on the same side.

yea hahn builds one with the inlets on the same side, i think its like $600 about the same size and dimensions.

HOLY SHIT! Dont buy that....if nothing else, just go on Honda-tech and find a used JRC or CCA intercooler....i'm running a 6" JRC right now. There's no reason in hell to pay $600 for an IC that size....i could have a custom one built for less than that!! If you want a custom one built for your setup go to www.straightlinespecialties.com and talk to Nick. He's a local dude and a buddy of mine...they'll build whatever you want for less than $600!

jerseycavyz24
03-13-2007, 01:50 PM
yea i wouldnt pay $600 for the hahn one either its nice but not worth $600

my dad has my car right now, and I told him to go across the street and see if he can make a trade for a smaller intercooler. This one was 30x12x3... he's in my uncle's body shop right now, and across the street is this place that builds race cars, so maybe they'll have something they can swap to us... This is me taking advice... I'm just really frustrated at the fact that I can only have my car down for a week, and I want everything to be perfect. You're right, it's not what I wanted to hear and I reacted wrong... I'm sorry, you were just trying to help...

I found one on e-bay for around 220 for what i am looking for. But i also found a killer deal an something else. I am going to see where that auction goes and be one of those assholes who ups the bid like 40 bucks at the last minute of the auction to win it... ha ha.

Its not that i didn't want to tell you all what it is... But when i first started watching it it was only at $100 bucks. RIght now its at $305 still a great deal. Didn't want others finding it and making the bids keep going up, even tho it is. Damn it!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=004&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=140095959296&rd=1

That J-tuners Manifold is worth its weight in gold alone. If it stays under 500 on sunday i am going to snag the whole setup. We want to replicate their mani and a spare garret super 60 is always nice to have sitting around. But we'll see. I sold the t3/t4 to chris for this sunfire since the engine is being fully built and going all out, and i got his turbonectics super 60 that was rebuilt with a setup for water cooling. Which is good up to 300hp which i don't ever plan on hitting. Suits my car just fine.

2 questions. Is there an set In and Out when talking about intercoolers..

and how exactly are they mounted? like what does it mount to, the frame? can anyone help?

Classicrocjunkie
03-15-2007, 01:01 AM
Depends on the intercooler. All have different mounting points on them. Some have them from the top and others on the side. Mount them to the bumper under the crush guard if possible. Might have to make a bracket and bolt is to the frame. Each is different. As for flow, it dosn't matter. One side is as good as another.

Derk_eliso
03-15-2007, 01:10 AM
