Hey Guys,

First time poster. I have a 97 chevy silverado 1500 with approx. 143,xxx miles. The rear end makes gear noise all the time. It's louder on accel/decel. I have been told that I need a new rear end. Does anybody have experience/knowledge with this? The truck is a 5.7 liter 4X4 auto. I believe the rear end is a GT4. If I need a new rear end, does anybody know of a good place to get rebuilt/used rear ends? I'm located in MN. Thanks for the info.

I have put ring gear and pinion bearings in these trucks without having to change the gears out. It will eventually damage the gears if not corrected, I've heard it has to do with the original lubricant used but I can't verify that. You can do it yourself if you have some gear knowledge, its not that bad.
