Steering Woes...

I have a 1988 Suburban, with a 2 inch Suspension lift, and 33in tires. There is a lot of play in the steering, and I have had the gear box and steering linkage checked, and three mechanics told me the same thing... "everything is fine, it is probably because of the oversized tires." Does anyone have any suggestions for tightening my steering? I can't believe there is nothing that can be done.

That is what I keep thinking. The play has gotten a bit better, by adjusting the tire pressure down to 35psi (was 45 PSI previously), but it still wanders a little (about a half inch of play in the steering wheel). Everyone keeps telling me it is because of the oversized tires. Maybe i am just being too pickey. It is a 20 year old truck, mostly original. Older Chevys were known for sloppy steering.

Oh well. If anyone has any suggestions for improvment, I am eager to hear them.
