'97 rear disc question

I didn't want to start a new thread because this may have already been covered, but not very clearly.......

I have a '97 Taurus w/ rear disc brakes, when I want to replace the pads, do I have to remove the parking brake spring and cable and all of that?

the haynes manual says yes, but I have heard elsewhere NO.

Also, is it OK to remove both left and right rear brakes at same time, or just one side at a time??:banghead:

Do one side at a time so that you can use the other as referance if you need to.

If only replacing the pads, don't need to disconnect anything. Just make sure that you use the specialty tool to rotate in the caliper, that you release the emergency brake, and that you take the cap off the resevoir. Otherwise, its even less fun.

haha, yeah I'm loving it.........hence:banghead: I do have the rear piston tool.

see, I think I need to have both rear rotors turned......dont know if I can remove both rear brakes without messing something up....

and finally...is threadlock necessary to add to the caliper bolts?

I have had one of those bolts come loose after changing the front brake pads.

i will now answer both of my own questions........

i wont mess up anything by taking off both calipers, because the pistons will stay in place.

and yes threadlock is a good idea.

this repair is pretty easy, by using this forum some intuition and a 24 oz. PBR

All the brake job I've done all diff. cars, I've never used threadlock. When time comes to change the brakes, you'll have a nice time cursing everyone's mama's until you take the threadlock bolt out.
I actually put anti-seize compound on all my brake bolts, so nothing snaps when I remove it down the road.
No bolts or nuts came undone using anti-seize compound.
You may or may not agree, but that's how things work for me :D
