AF group build - VTEC powered Super7

Hi,

I recently noticed that the deadline for the AF SuperSeven group build is very soon. I suspended all other builds in order to finish my VTEC powered SuperSeven in time.

I thought about many engine options for a while: Lotus Esprit Turbo, Jaguar XJS and even a Porsche 944 Turbo....but then I didn't want to steal those engines from the respective kits.

I finally decided to go with an engine from the Honda Integra TypeR, of which I have a couple laying around. This also ensured that I could stick to Colin Chapman's idea of weight being the enemy.

I cut off the 7's transmission and glued it to the VTEC engine...and it fits almost perfect.

I am also going to use the custom rims of said Integra kit as they have the perfect size. Brakes are Fujimi Brembo's...a bit oversized, but - what the heck :naughty:

I custom build the exhaust and modified the Integra air intake to fit. I added a couple of wires and hoses (more to come...).

The rollbar is modified from the original part and the seat is from the parts bin.
I removed the battery and I am going to relocate it to the co-driver's place for a lower center of gravity. The bottle you see next to it is either goint to be a fire extinguisher or a NOS bottle, I didn't decide that yet.

Ooooh, very lovely!

I like the stripes on the sides, it gives for lotsa potential paint-wise.... I ll be interested in seeing how this one turns out, with the super rims and engine!

Looks great so far. The idea is stellar (if I do say so myself) and the construction so far looks perfect. The only crit I have is that the B series engines turn the wrong way. :(

The seat is from the Revell / Hasegawa Subaru Impreza WRC 1995 RAC Winner
(that kit is only good enough to salvage parts from - but hey, it was just 1€ @ ebay :evillol: )

Great choice for the engine- it looks perfect in there. Terrific match for the car. What kit did it come out of?

I think a fire bottle is a better option than a NOS bottle. There's a limit to just how much power you can put into a super lightweight car. A VTEC will almost definately give you Ferrari level acceleration or more. Much more than that and the back end isn't heavy enough to keep the wheels from spinning freely. Same thing with big brakes- 7s don't have ALB, so huge brakes will tend to lock easily and flatspot the tyres. Of course building it to fantasy specifications is cool too, but the VTEC seems like such a reasonable and realistic engine choice- the rest of the car could be, too.

I shortened the rearmost part (whatever it is called, it holds the license plate) and added a diffusor in the process.
I think a little downforce is in order with the VTEC engine :iceslolan

I also finished the rear axle. It is painted black, with some chrome silver accents. I personally like how the springs came out :sunglasse

Great build you have here! I love the artistic freedom, makes it so much more original! Keep it coming.

I personally like how the springs came out :sunglasse I know what you mean! These kit coils paint up really well and almost look like real springs.

I was debating whether to scrtach some for my S7 but I just ran a black sharpie over the rasied edge of the kit part and it looks great too IMO.

I finally found some time to work on the VTEC powered 7 again. The deadline extension is a good thing :smooch:

Well, I painted the body gloss black and the sides BMW Delphin Metallic. I added a battery and a fire extinguisher to the interior, installed the seat, seatbelts and the rollbar.

I will work some more on it today, but can't promise pictures as the sun is setting soon :frown:
