The sparkplugs on my 1992 Metro convertible appear to be burning very , very hot white. Is this normal? The gas mileage in Winter now is about 25 to 30 mpg:uhoh: I just got this vehicle:)

You might want to buy a repair manual for the car. That should tell you what kind of spark plug it should have. Maybe the previous owner put in the wrong ones....

What do you consider "White Hot"?.....a normal burning spark plug should appear to have a "Tan/Brown or Light gray colored electrode. If a plug is burning very hot, the electrode will look somewhat melted on the end or missing part of the electrode itself alltogether. What brand and part # are the spark plugs in your car? If you just got the car and dont have any service records as to when the plugs (And Wires) were last changed, I suggest you buy a new set of 3 AC-Delco Platinum - Part number 41-804 spark plugs (Gap is .042 on these plugs) and a decent quality set of plug/coil wires (NO "ValueCRAP wires from autozone). If you dont know how to correcltly set the gap on the plugs, have them check them or do it before you leave the auto store.

Here's a link to different spark plug conditions...Look at it and then check yours out and compare them....Post back what your current plugs in tha car are and what they look like?

I haven't had much luck with platinum plugs. There was a debate sometime back about whether or not they do what they claim or whether the spark is hot enough in a metro for a platinum plugs to make a difference. A mechanic friend of mine said that the spark was not hot enough and suggested I replace my platinum plugs with the stock NGK.

I did and have enjoyed better performance and fuel economy.
