Do turbo timers really work? if so which make/model is the best for the money and do you think it would fit in the DiamondStarMotorSport.com custom vent guage holder pictured here.. http://www.diamondstarmotorsport.com/gaugeparts_files/VIcenterventpods.JPG(the one on the left top corner)

Yes turbo timers do what they are ment to do. Depending on what options you get with the timer depends on the money you spend on it. I have a basic HKS timer that you have to manually set(its like 2 years old). Does its purpose. As for fitting in that gauge holder your on your own. You would have to know the dimentions for the gauge holder and the dimentions for the turbo timer. Timers come in different shapes and sizes so kinda hard to tell you an answer for that.

Yes they work. You will get a few differant opinions about them. Some people will tell you that you absolutly have to have one or you have to let your car cool down for X amount of time before turning it off. It really depends on what turbo you are running though. If you have a turbo that is water cooled then you dont necessarily need it. You will want to wait a minute to let it cool off after you have been getting on it but if you have just been driving normally then there is no reason to sit there. But if you have a turbo which is non water cooled then it would definitely be a good idea. Its really up to you though. You will get into a lot of conversations with people who tell you that your car is still running while you are walking away from it. I usually give them smart remarks like telling them to take it or acting ignorant to it and be like "Oh shit your right"

So what exactly do they do? Where they hook up to and all? Always been curious. My guy who had the STi in my advatar would wait a while after driving before he shut his car off until he got one, then cracked it up a couple days later. What they do and how?

they keep the engine running after the key is out of the ignition so the turbo gets cooled down properly to prolong efficiently and turbo life etc etc

They plug in right to the ignition. Most of them you can buy the specific wiring harness to plug right in. Other wise you have to splice some wires. But yes in short when you turn the key off the engine continues to run allowing the oil in the turbo to cool at idle rather than when the engine is off which in theory if you just turn the car off the turbo will get some scaring/burn marks inside, which weakens it over time and eventually it will blow.

I have the HKS - Type 1. Its nice and measures rpms, speed, and battery voltage. It also does 1/4 and 1/8 mile times, 0-60 and 60ft times. It allows the oil to cool down in the turbo, if you drive it hard and heat the turbo up alot the oil will basically harden and eventually stop the shaft from spinning. This is called "coking."
