I'm still alive. Just happen to be posting in many forums as well. I went riding today because it was 78 deg out.

Sometimes forums get slow when the weather is nice, people are outside doing stuff instead of being stuck inside with nothing to do.

Went riding today since it stopped raining and was 55 degrees out.

It's hard to stay in a cycling kinda mood when it's so "cucking fold" outside. Here in Michigan, it was -5 with the wind-chill factor last night. They say it'll hit the 50's by the weekend, with overnight lows only dipping to 40'ish, so my Harley will be out if the roads are clear. Don't fret the breakup es, you're young and seem like a nice guy, there'll be more.

It's good to be in California...we're going to have some 94 deg weather :sunglasse this weekend--nothing less than 80 for the upcoming weeks.

The only think that bogs me down is my allergies. :frown:

Between snow and sub-freezing windchills, I'm not much in the mood to talk bikes. :(

That, and work is keeping me swamped since I lost half my workforce last Friday.

actually riding takes my mind off work. last week was a hectic day at work--so glad it's over. :jump3:

I can't imagine riding in freezing weather. During the winter here it was probably 50 deg.

I can't decide if my bike is just more stress, or if it will help after a long day at work... especially since a co-worker is a biker, too. I might try riding into work a few times and see if it helps or just makes me angrier... my guess is that it's time to sell the bike and get out of my parents' house.

i'd say woohoo but its been raining solid since i did it. :banghead:

still went out to test it out though. so far not impressed.

I live in north western Oregon, it basically rains from late October until usually sometime in April, I passed my riders course in November, then bought my ride two weeks later.

Basically what I have found that I can tolerate is that if it is not raining and above 40 degrees I go riding, anything below 40 my hands go numb even with gloves on.

Saturn, how can your bike be a source of stress?! There is nothing better than taking a putt or carving some corners (depending on what you ride) after a stressful day. I just got my new windshield, gonna install it tonight after work so she's ready to ride. I have the saddlebags on her, and removed all the fringe (you can't really see it in the pic in my signature, but it was on it when I bought it, and had to go) and will be installing my Rinehart pipes soon. I'll post some new pics when I get it all done. The pipes might wait until after this 50+ weather we're supposed to be getting so I can ride it. The pipes may require a re-jet on the carb, and I don't want to be riding it too rich/lean. I've been chomping at the bit, as we had warm enough weather to ride up until January 5th, then it got "cucking fold" and crappy.

richtazz, what is a re-jet on the carb. my bike has a carburator and im curious. also have heard of recalibrating them, whats that? aussie, what does a power commander do?

When you rejet you are changing the size of the orifices in the carb(s) that meters the amount of fuel drawn into the engine, thereby changing the fuel/air ratio. Larger jetting will make it richer, etc...

A power commander is for fuel injected motors, and allows you to alter the timing and dwell of the injectors (called fuel map, remapping) to make the engine perform better...similar to rejetting a carbed motor, but more precise...

Stock fuel settings are as far to the lean side as the factory can get away with, to appease the EPA by lowering emissions, and to make for higher fuel mileage. But lean settings also contribute to cold start difficulties, backfire and hesitation when throttle is rolled on hard, and higher cylinder temps. A slightly rich mix will generally give you more power, better cold performance and has a quenching effect on cylinder temps, at the expense of higher emissions and lower fuel mileage...

the most common mods on a sportsbike involve

1) new exhaust. does bugger all on its own but sound pretty.
2)new air filter. compliments the exhaust but still not much HP increase.

doesn't matter which one you do first, they still don't do to much (2-5 hp)

the missing link is, in carbied models, the re-jetting. that makes the other two come together and give bigger gains. in FI models, its the power commander that takes care of the fuelling.

now some would say 10-20 hp difference in total but its more to do with throttle response and smoothing out the curve. my bike had a bad glitch at 3000rpm. when i changed the gearing it move lower to 2250rpm but now with the commander, its pretty much gone.

my old carbied gixer had all three done when i got it so i had no reference to a stock one. it was sweet to ride on the track but anxious on the road.

Taking a putt is about all my bike can/will do. You'd think with rejetting the carbs and putting a 4-1 high-flow exhaust that my 600 would actually move... it's just not a sportbike. Never was meant to be, never will be, and unfortunately I want a sportbike out of it. I have more fun riding my godson's mom's 250. :( Too bad her bike is worth about double what mine is, or I'd buy it off her.

Es, if you do engine mods, sometimes it will require new jets in the carb, as the factory set-up cannot deliver enough fuel. This will keep your air/fuel ratio optimal for your new set-up. A power commander is a new ECM calibrated for more power on fuel injected vehicles. It has re-mapped fuel delivery curves, timing advance and may raise the rev-limiter just to name a few changes. Since you can't change the "jets" in a fuel injected bike (as it doesn't have them), you have to change the programming that fires the injectors to deliver more fuel.

Ah. The itch is starting abk up with me again, i can feel riding season sneaking up. I cant wait because riding season = work season and work season = save up money for an SV1000 season! Hopefully if things work out, i'll be putting around in my v-twin sounding cooler than and running circles around all the dumb kids around here in their 600 4 ploppers.

how can i tell if its been done already? i bought the bike used from a local shop. i know that the previous owner switched from the stock dual exhaust to a single muzzy. is there a way to tell? the bike seems to run great but im still a new rider so i cant tell if i need something like that. in different temps i have to sometimes raise or lower the idol, is this normal? sometimes i dont get a chance to downshift at a light and go to neutral while breaking and my idol goes down so fast the bike almost sounds like shes gonna turn off. is the normal? but if i down shift, no problem at all.

Jets are numbered, so the only way to know would be to remove the carbs, take the float bowls off, remove the jetand check the number on it versus what the bike came with stock. If the bike is running good, with no flat spots during acceleration, I'd leave well enough alone.
