I just got this with 56,000 miles and comes with 4x4. Are there any issues that I should be worried about with this truck?

Another 2005'er! The typical GMT360 chassis issues are:
1) Engine cooling fan clutch. Supposedly updated mid 2005.
2) Weak waterpumps.
3) Weak power steering pumps.
4) Cheap ignition switches.
5) Wind noise from doors.
6) Cheap stabilizer bar end-links. All 4.
7) Clunky front suspension even with good end links.
8) Weather stripping and mouldings may need extra adheasive to stay in place.
9) Fuel economy that most owners complain about, but it's not different than any other same-class truck.
I'm sure there's more! Those aside, it's a great truck. Better than most domestics IMO, and a great used buy. I love my 2005, but only have 28Kmi on it. @ 56Kmi, at a minimum I'd change out the front and rear diff oils, then swap out the auto-trak II in the transfer case.

So far I love how it drives. It rides so smooth and quiet and is so comfortable on dirt roads too. What is the autotrak II? Where can I get an owners manual since it didn't have one? What mods are available for it?

Yep, they are by far the roomiest, nicest riding and handling SUV in this class. Turning radius is unreal as well. GM Auto-Trak II is the oil you use in the transfer case. It's a dealer only item unfortunately and the clutches will chatter if you use anything else. Front and rear diffs use synthetic 75w-90 (those were BLACK in my 2005 by 20Kmi). You will want to do a pan drop/clean out on your 4L60E trans by that mileage as well. I pumped out (thru cooler line) and refilled mine around 20K. Lots of 'cold air intakes' and modded PCM's are avail, but those are not my thing. Keep your tires aired up slightly higher than the door jamb specs to maximize fuel economy. Obviously never go above the tire sidewall specs for pressure.

What fuel should I be using? I've been using regular but a friend of mine says to use mid-grade because he used to have an 04 and would knock with regular and had to use mid-grade.

You should never have to use higher octane fuel for a vehicle that's not spec'd for it. You are just wasting your cash. A small amount of tip-in knock (I believe that's what it's called) is perfectly normal. That is when you get a small amount of chatter/ping at the start of hard accelleration. The atlas/vortec 4.2L has 2 knock sensors so you should never have a constant or steady knock/ping. Also, stick with a 5w-30 engine oil that meets the GM 6094M spec. If you want to go by the engine oil life monitor for your oil change intervals's, that spec is important. Your LS probably has an idiot light that will light up when the PCM calculates the engine needs an oil change. You can read up on the GM OLM (oil life monitor) for tons of info on that.
