How to purge the cooling system

I just got done flushing system, although considering doing another flush because water still has that rusty tint in it, or may be it is just reservoir got tinted… I will be mixing the coolant with distilled water, but how to purge cooling system completely from the tap water I have no idea. Actually I do, but I am not sure if it any good. In order to flush the system I had to install the T on the heater inlet hose. If I open radiator (reservoir) car and gently blow some compressed air into that T or visa-versa, will I damage any cooling or other components? I just don’t want to mix good distilled water with tap water, defeats the purpose…

Thanks!

You'll never get it all out.. well you can open every water port and remove all the hoses and wait for the whole system to air dry but, that would promote more rust in the engine.

Just do the best you can, draining and blowing, you might want to shoot some air through the heater core too.

The air can't hurt anything if it's done the way you describe.

PS: You'll get more water out if you loosen the bottom radiator hose too.

Thanks Towncar!

I was actually hoping that by having hermetically sealed system I will be able to evacuate at least the top portion of the heads and the engine block and then drain the rest of it through the bottom hose.

Well, actually if you don't open the bottom hose the system will stay full.. opening the filler cap and blowing there, or in your new T on the heater hose wont do anything to evacuate the system without the lower hose open too. Remember, the thermostat will be closed while your draining the system, so there's no flow from the block to the radiator. The block, heads, waterpump, and radiator will all drain through the bottom hose. The heater core may need a little persuasion but it should also drain through siphon effect when the bottom radiator hose is opened.

Like I mentioned before, if you really want to be thorough you can remove every hose and blow 'em all out.

I have a feeling you want to make your new baby last forever :)

Have you considered the Transmission flush?

Thanks Towncar!

You are sure right about the thermostat not letting me purge it completely, I will just try getting most of the water out, still better then 100% tap water.
Yes I want it to last forever or at least for as long as I can, actually all cars I have are like that. I certainly considered the transmission flush but before I do it (for now fluid looks very clean as if you just changed it) I wanted to decide if I want to use AMSOIL or any other reputable brand synthetic fluid. I will also add a transmission cooler in front of the condenser, already ordered  I am looking at that skinny radiator and don’t get it how it cools both the engine and the transmission :screwy:
