I have 2001 2.4L Cavalier Z24. Works fine for months straight, but usually around every 2 months (varies) it will be picky and not start for 4-5 days and then it will resume to working fine again. Weather doesn't seem to be a factor, I have had it not start in rain, sun, and cold weather. Boots and plug cover are both in excellent condition. It is winter in Nova Scotia right now if that matters. I had diagnostic check at automotive repair place and they recommended changing spark plugs and fuel filter, I have changed spark plugs because they had 130, 000 kms on them. I am planning on changing fuel filter soon also. I would like to know if after changing fuel filter my problem is not fixed where should I check. Vaccum lines? I would like to also mention that when it does start it works fine, BUT, sometimes it will have slight vibration through the steering wheel...like its having a rough idle. Not enough to rumble dash or gear stick, just steering column and wheel. If anyone can help it would be excellent! Thank You all so much, I don't know how many times I have been helped on here. If you need cooking help, I'm a culinary student! E-mail me! LOL!

Definitely change the fuel filter! I had the same problem on my 97 2.4 except mine would die every week or so but ran fine in between fits. I tried many things and skipped the fuel filter because it was only 10,000mi old. Well, it has been fine now for almost a month since I replaced the fuel filter. I was able to get mine started when it acted up. Does yours start at all? If not, try having someone bang hard on the fuel tank while you crank it - if it starts, then your fuel pump is the problem.

My only questions to you is - Are there any codes? (is the check engine light on?)

No check engine light....and I can hear fuel pump engaging when I turn key if that means its working correctly. Could I hit the fuel filter to shake the blockage loose and maybe get it started to get it to garage? haha :grinno:

Just replace it. Even if you pay to have it replaced it will be worth it. If nothing else, you'll be able to rule it out if it happens again.
