headlights stay on

I H ave an 84 rabbit convertible the lights will not shut off . any ideas would be helpful

replace the headlight/dimmer switch. its a pretty common problem. vw didnt think that putting headlight relays in was a good idea so instead of your headlights drawing power thru a relay, they draw all of the power thru a switch, which in turn fries the switch over time. hope this helps
