Another towing question

2000 Blazer LT 4 dr 4 wheel drive, heavy duty trailing equipment, 3.42 ratio rear axle ,GVW rating 5350 lbs touring suspension. Would like to tow pop-up camper GVW rated at 3280 lbs's. The owners manuel states that I need a sway bar over 2000 lbs. Question: Does my Blazer have a sway bar if it has the towing package? or do i need to have one installed? Any and all advise on towing with the Blazer would be appreciated. Thanks

I'll throw my 2 cents in. The manual may be referring to a sway control device, but maybe not. Check out http://www.drawtite-hitches.com/WD/about_wd_hitches.htm and scroll down to "About Sway Control" for more info on sway control. The site will probably do a better job explaining things than I can.

if you have a tow package it "should " have sway bars but thats not always the case - usually the front axle will have one but not the rear - look underneath for a round tube bar that follows the contour of the rear axle - if not you should get one - not only will it be more comfortable it just might save your life - also you probably already know this but dont use overdrive when towing - ever - it will overheat the trans wether or not you have an aftermarket trans cooler .

I agree with Cruize, The "sway bar" referred to in the owners manual would be a sway control device which is usually a part of a load leveling hitch.

3280 lbs sounds too heavy for a popup camper. I would guess that is the maximum loaded weight and the camper itself weighs considerably less. The load leveling hitch would be a good idea.

Riptide is right about keeping the truck out of overdrive.
