92 s10 help

help I have a 92 s10 4.3. I just put new heads on and put every thing back toghter. but it will not start. It just back fires real bad.I already tried to reset the timing. Also I need pics of top of motor to see were some egr hoses go. My buddy put the heads on for me and put it at tdc.:banghead:

Was the dist set on no. 1 TDC compression or no.1 TDC exhaust stroke?
Have you double checked the firing order?
Are the rocker arms/push rods self adjusting or adjustable?
Is it a W or Z engine or turbo?
