OK guys, I am putting this thing in the gsx and I ran into some problems. First of all, this is the engine

http://www.slowboyracing.com/estore/product.php?productid=1896&cat=2532&page=1

The back of the head is ported, and when I put the intake manifold on it does not seal right. The head ports still stick out and that will leak big time. What do I do ?? I cant make a custom gasket since the gap s kinda big.

What do you mean the head ports stick out? If the problem is what I'm thinking, that's baaaaaaaaaaaad, is there any way you can get a picture?

OK, I think I can explain it a little better. I cant get to upload pics so I will try to explain it in detail. So the intake ports on the head are ported for better flow. When I take the intake manifold, which is my stock one, the runners are small and it does not seal right with the ported head. The intake ports on the head are big and does not seal right with the intake manifold runenrs. OK, I hope you get what I am saying, if not I will get pics somehow.

port the intake manifold :1:

Problem solved...

Yeah, you need to port-match the intake manifold now, otherwise it will run like absolute shit. I thought you meant they were ported so big that you could like see inside the ports with the intake manifold on...if you get my drift.

I think hes saying the ports are bigger than the IM.... which may very well be true if its a 1g head and a 2g mani. Am I right? If you need a 1g mani (lots bigger) I have a spare or two I can toss your way.

That is exactly what he's saying. Even with the 1g intake manifold, he should still port-match though.

Oh, well yeah, but he cant port match a 2g mani, if the ports stick out farther than the runners do themselves. 2g manis are worthless anyway, even if you could port that it wouldnt be worth it since you can only port in so far. Let me know if you need that mani, I have a TB as well if you want that also...

Thor got this one, you can not use a 2g manifold on a 1g head, there is not physically enough material on the manifold to cover the larger ports. You can install it, but it will idle like a chopper. Ask me how I know, I made this mistake back in 01 or so... :D

Yes, even if I port the intake manifold it will still not cover it since the ports are physically not big enough. So I am guessing this is a 1st gen head. OK so what would happend if I get one of those red Cyclone intake manifolds since I know there is a turbo dsms here are the junkyard and I have seen one with such manifold. Will the runners on that Cyclone cover the 1st gen head intake ports ?

By the way, how do you know the difference between a 1st gen head and a 2nd gen head ? I looked around but I got no results. I know I am hopeless but I am trying to get this thing running in a week or so.

Thanks guys

Dustin, c'mon man, ya gotta give me a *little* credit here, I do own a number of these cars remember. I wasn't telling him to use the 2g manifold, I know it won't physically work. I was saying that with the 1g, he should still port-match it to the head so you get a nice, even flow with no abrupt edges or anything.

Eclipse4ever, yes, that Cyclone manifold should work port size, but IIRC, there are a few wiring changes you have to make. Maybe just a regular 1g intake manifold would work if you want to get it running correctly in a week.

Alot of those manifolds that say Cyclone on them arent even Cyclone manifolds they just say it on there. But yes it will work for you.

Thor06, so you have a 1st gen intake manifolds. If indeed they will match my head, then how much would you want for 1 to 89123. I dont feel like going to the junkyard and doing all the work so I rather buy off you guys.

Garrett, I was confused :D.

It is possible that you are still on a 2g head but its just ported to shit. Either way, a 1g IM should work. You will be amazed at the difference, I remember the first time I saw a 2g IM after working with the 1g's for so long. I laughed. I dont know, I think they are pretty rediculous.

Oh also I think you can find writeups for cyclone IM's on tuners.

I dont know what I want for it, let me get back to you on that. One thing I should say though, is that the IM itself is at home which is 220 miles away. I wont be back home until March 30-31 or Easter depending on how school is going. I do have a friend or two that could send it out for me back home, but I almost dont want to do that because I dont know whether or not my buddies will ship it right away. Let me know what you are thinking, I will get back to you on a price tonight or tomorrow.
