The End of the World in 2012?

Incase you dont know there are many predictions from prominent older cultures that predict the end of the world in 2012. Even current scientist strongly believe world changing disasterious events will occur in 2012. The Myian Calander ends in 2012 with reference to a black hole. The I Chang a book used to predict the future used by ancient chinese and still today predicts the end of the world in 2012. The real life wizard Merlin, predicted the end of the world in 2012. Scientist predict world changing events in 2012 when our solar system aligns with the blackhole that is the center of our galaxy. They predict this will cause the poles of the earch to rapidly shift and cause massive climate change.
Im just curious if anyone else believes this? I mean could this all be some kinda of coincidence or is it real? Different cultures in different times all predict 2012 will be the end of the world. Kinda scary if you believe it to know you only have about 5 years left of good life. Not to say you will die, but if its true, life as we know it will end.

Christ, you watched that damn history special crap. I watched that as well and it was so full of crap it made me laugh. The only thing that says the world will end in 2012 is essentially the myan calender. All the other things that claim it will end are just shotty interperetations of the origional documents. People want them to say the same thing so they twist it around to say the same thing. As for the black hole, the black hole in the center of our galaxy is about 50 thousand light years away, there is no way that it can have any effect on the earth or the sun if they are aligned. Ill let you have some perspective on how far away 50 thousand light years is, even if you were in a ship travelling at the speed of light it would take you 50 thousand years just to reach it.
As far as the poles flipping, that is a gross over exaggeration as well. The magnetic poles naturally move from place to place as a result of the earths core spinning on a wobble. Every couple hundred thousand years the earths magnetic field flips, it has happened countless times before and will happen again(we are overdue for another flip). When this flip occours the will only be small changes. At first while the field is flipping there will be multiple poles on the earth and because the magnetic field deflects all solar rays to the poles there will be an increase in solar radiation for all areas under the poles, this is the most dangerous effect but certainly will not cause climate change and mass extinction. It will probably only result in elevated numbers of skin cancer cases for affected areas. After the flip occours the magnetic north pole will becaome the south and vice versa. This does not mean that the earth is gonna flip upside down but just that compasses will point south instead of north.
There is nothing major to worry about. Dont beleive everything you see on tv, even if it is the history channel. I have found that the history channel has been spreading a bunch of useless superstisious nonsense like this around lateley.

umm the poles flipping does cause massive climate changes, antarctica used to be a desert like continent before the dinosaurs. and yes i know the poles flipping is a regular thing, about once every 25,000 years. Which is the same amount of time it takes the earth to make an alignment with the blackhole in the center of the galaxy. And the I Chang wasnt just putting crap together form no where, the dates corresponded exactly with other signigicant dates in world history.

The magnetic poles flipping has nothing to do with climate. Antarctica used to be a desert because of CONTINENTAL DRIFT not pole flipping. The continent of antarctica used to be on the equator but drifted to the south pole. Look up continental drift or plate techtonics.
The flipping of the poles has nothing to do with a black hole 50k light years away. Like i said, its because the earth's core wobbles, the core is what generates our magnetic field.
And i never said the i chang put crap together, i was talking about the interpretation of it. The i cang was not written to predict the end of the world, it was written to predict peoples fortunes but ONE man, thousands of years after it was written, arranged the different symbols in the book into a graphical representation of history and the graph goes to 0 sometime in the 21st century. Keep in mind he could have arranged the symbols into any order to fit his own purpose. The i chang doesnt say the world ends in 2012, the graph that was created by this guy using symbols from the i chang says that it will. He just arranged these symbols so that the graph would correspond to events that had already happened in his time.

I don't buy it. If it was true, Prince's lyrics would have been "Tonight I'm going to party like it's 2011"
There have been prophecies of the world ending, for whatever reason, at each millenia, when the solar eclipses occurred, lunar eclipses, comets, and anything else.
We're more likely to kill ourselves off by pollution or war than through come cataclysm.

How can the magnetic fields swap or even change dramatically on the earth and NOT have any effect on the climate?
blakscorpion21

Because the magnetic field has no effect on the weather. All it does is deflect solar radiation away from the earth.

Since the dawn of time people have feared the end of time. That sh!ts funny.
I agree that pollution or war will likely be the end of us all. We will poison the planet till it can no longer sustain life, or blow it to sh!t with some bombs and kill everyone in the process.

I think its a bunch of bull. As others have said, we're to far away to be sucked in by a black hole or for it to have any effect. I don't think there will be chaotic weather storms or anything drastic when the poles flip. So many have said or predicted that the world will be destroyed before today, and it hasn't happened. Just wait till then and you'll see. If your worried, live normally. if anything is gonna happen, it's inevitable, can't be changed, so why worrie about it. As they say: live each day as it were your last.

The earths poles have switched around several times in our planets life time. Which would cause major climate changes.
Thier is also a big blackhole close to our galaxy but I doubt it will eat us up anytime soon :grinno:
Though it is funny/strange how so many gave the same year as to when it will end.. who knows!
Hope it at least waits till the end of 2012

Actually that was the Aztecks. And yes the poles have switched many times but it has no effect on climate. And the nearest black hole is about 1600 light years away, close by universe standards but way too far to even mention. Not to mention its not even a massive one.

Aztecks, Mayans doesnt matter they are extinct like the dino's.
I do disagree with that effect on climate from the poles shifting. If the poles move so does the whole planet thus putting each area into a different climate.
If the planet flip flops side ways weather will be drasticly changed. Which would probly wipe our little butts clean off existanz....
Hope we at least us up all the fossel fuels,
so the next time around we wont ruin everything with all the CO2 and CO2O.
And little black holes can become big eaters, at anytime it so desires. That sucks! :iceslolan

i've always thought that if there was going to be a single final "end of the world" situation, it would be something very mundane.
It'd be morbidly funny if people spent so many years predicting the world's end through a series of cataclysmic, somewhat melodramatic events. Then all that happens is one day the sun inexplicably, and without warning, blows up. How many of you would react like, "Oh, you got to be kidding me..." right before being engulfed? I know I would.:runaround:
This world ends for each of us at the moment of our death. We will all die one day.
Very good point. Simple, yet undeniably true.
I think we shouldn't worry so much about the world ending, at least worry at things beyond our control. Whether it ends at 2012 or not, I'd like to live my life as it were. So when 2012 comes, I can look back and say, "Well, it's been fun, but I guess it's time to die." Or, if nothing happens, I can look forward and say, "Well, hey, let's keep on living then! Alright!" :smokin:
Either way, it seems like a win-win situation to have that attitude in life, impending cataclysm or not.

And people, please read up on the theory of black holes, and why they dont just suck up everything in their path. Even if the sun suddenly turned into a black hole... it wouldn't suck us up! It's not some goddamn vacuum cleaner. Outside of the event horizon, it has to follow the same rules (of physics) that everyone else does. The gravitational force on us from the one in the center of the galaxy is no different than the gravitational force of a super-super-duper-massive star at the center...at this distance: nil. The gravitational force of the MOON has much more to do with us.

Wow, people have too much spare time on their hands. A forum totally deicated to one event. And not even a large event like WWII which can have different topics. THis is like, New Year's Eve 2007. Let's all talk about that one day and try and catergorize everything.
Yet, they have managed to do though...rather...well...in a way...ish.

Porn will never end, but with the shortage of hops, beer will end as we know it.

All of this seems more and more like real motivation to add all the go fast goodies you can to your ride and drive the crap out of it while you've still got the chance. That way, if all the predictions are a load of manure, you got to have your fun before you turned into a old fuddy duddy. If they're true, its still a win/win situation!....:)

So what would you do if the world really did end in 2012? That's if you knew for sure...I bet somehow people would start spending money like crazy and it would get us out of this recession haha(I know that's not really funny cause the 'recession' or whatever it is you want to call it, sucks)

umm the poles flipping does cause massive climate changes, antarctica used to be a desert like continent before the dinosaurs. and yes i know the poles flipping is a regular thing, about once every 25,000 years. Which is the same amount of time it takes the earth to make an alignment with the blackhole in the center of the galaxy. And the I Chang wasnt just putting crap together form no where, the dates corresponded exactly with other signigicant dates in world history.
the black hole is in the center so how could it align with it and it takes more tha 25k years for the galaxy to spin one time
also it is a crock of shit just like the year 2000
