Automotive crossdressing

I have a 86 Dodge with a 2.6 4 cyl Mitsu motor. Does anyone know where the unit is that advances the spark when van warms up? Im thinking its a small box hidden inside the vehicle? I think it shorted during an electric fire.
Starts great then when it hits run mode starts misfiring then quits.
Has family sentment and only thing twenty my wife lets me touch.
