I just got a new cheap stereo. It's a Phase Linear (Audiovox).
Model: UMP301 (http://www.audiovox.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&productId=17306&langId=-1).
When I turn the ignition to ACC or start the car, the unit comes on, but there's no sound.
I turn the key to the off position and sound plays for about 3 seconds & the unit shuts off. (sounds good when it's on.. heh)
Sound also plays for a few seconds when I turn the ignition forward (while car is running).
It's wired the same way as my old one(I think) which worked fine, so I'm not sure what's up :screwy:
Any advice?

All are connected properly - just checked a 3rd time. :banghead:
The only wire not connected(from the unit) is the Power Antenna and it's taped off.
There are 3 from the harness (dimmer, illum/dash light, pwr ant) that are taped off as well.
Also to add to my first post.. after the sound plays from turning the ignition/key forward while the car is running, the unit appears to shut off & come back on (no sound again)..
Any other ideas? :)
Would I kill something if I switched the power(yellow) & ignition(red) wires to see if they're wrong?

Could it be the wiring harness? I saw somewhere that it's specific to your car model/make AND the unit.
I thought it was just specific to the car? heh

Sounds like a problem with your unit. If the unit comes on then there should be sound. Unless something is shorting with the speakers. My friends unit had a similar problem but it wouldnt play music in any channel, i tried wiring them on the rear and everything. So i grabbed a spare amp i had at my house and hooked it up. Then the remote was blown. So i had to jump the power and remote to get the amp to turn on. I finally hooked up a wire and switch to the remote and now it works fine.

Metra Radio Wiring Harness (OP-1380) (http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Metra-Radio-Wiring-Harness-OP-1380/sem/rpsm/oid/64240/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do)
After looking around, I found this.
Do I need this in addition to the wiring harness specific to my car, or is this just easier than taping them? :p

Take it to a pawn shop and act like your going to pawn it. They will hook it up to see if it works. If it works inside the pawn shop then its your wiring. Once they see if it works if it does they will offer money wich you will refuse, if it doesnt work they will let you know by handing it back to you along with some comment.
Good luck.
Good luck.
