2000 Grand Am SE

I have a 2000 Grand Am SE with a 2.4 in it with 140000 on it. What I was wondering is what can I do to the car to insure I get the most out of it? I've kept the oil changed every 4000 miles or so. I've changed the transmission fluid and stuff. I am about to get the spark plugs and stuff changed soon. Curious should I have the timing chain changed or anything else?

How many miles can one usually get out of these engines?

Proper maintenance is always the way to keep an engine running properly for a long period of time. You may want to change the fuel filter when you do the plugs. Another item is the connectors that connect the coil housing to the plugs. These can go bad and since you have it apart anyway you may want to change these as well.

As for the timing chain, these can last for many miles or cause problems. If you have the money go ahead and have it changed although this is not a cheap job. This will however eliminate the possibility of the chain jumping time or breaking in the future. Good Luck!

do you have any guess about how long these engines last mile wise(200,000-250,000)? Providing something like the timing chain doesn't break and ruin the whole thing? I put a fuel pump in it last Jan with new filter. Should I change it again?

Guessing I would say it had around 120,000 give or take a few thousand miles when I changed them.

What exactly do you mean by "how long should it last" with proper care and a little bit of luck you should easily double your current mileage with no major rebuilds. If you include rebuilding of any/all of the major systems ie:engine/tranny/steering/brakes/electrical then it should last as long as parts are available.
