egr flow problem

I have a 1997 accord 2.2 vtec.
I was told I had poor egr flow and the egr port or ports and intake need to be cleaned. First off, what could cause this and secondly can anyone help me with instruction on how to do it myself?

i would assume it happens simply because of what it does. exhaust gass isnt very clean stuff. i would think just removing the egr valve and hoses to get to the ports would allow to just clean them out. dont think this is a terrible thing for your car though, it just means you arent putting out the cleanest emissions.
