I believe they were LT1 up to '98

Waht does your intake manifold look like?

Rectangualr with runners

or

Runners going side to side on the top?

edit: And welcome to AF

93-97 TA's were LT1's
98-02 TA's were LS1's

93-97 LT1 98-2002 LS1

LS1 is a new design pushrod v-8. all aluminum block. Excellent engine, easily makes power but parts can be pricey ~320hp stock

LT1 is based off of the original small block v-8. Some slight changes here and there. Its old technology now but still a great and proven engine. ~275hp stock

BIG differences
LT1 has the optispark
LS1 has coil-near-plug design

LT1 has reverse-flow cooling
LS1 does not

LT1 is an iron block w/ aluminum heads
LS1 is an aluminum block with aluminum heads

heres laymans terms, in case you're thinking someone swapped it... if the top's square and silver and the air intake goes off to the side it's an LT1. If the top's black and curvy and the air intake is straigh ahead of the engine, above the radiator its an ls1

What do you mean 'goes off to the side'? The LT1's intake manifold sits square on the block, just like the LS1's.

Oh shit, good call. Obviously mis-read, sorry, you're right. My mind is pre-occupied at the moment. :banghead:

looking at a superchip some small stuff here and there, like headers, cat back exhaust system, new rims, cat converter, what i really want to do is upgrade from a automatic tranny to a manual, you know there ain't nothing like going through the gears, and maybe some 410 gears. and maybe thinking about a turbo. Thats about it. oh and a shift kit.

I bet butting a manual tranny in an auto would be a pain. Dealing with the clutch and stuff. Good luck with your plans

well i got a guy who owns a performance shop he knows everything about everything if it has to do with engines or trannys so im was going to let him put it in.

Nice, it would be a project for sure.

Make sure you get solid quotes... buddy or not, mechanaprics always add to their bills when they can.

AND you might want to check out some of the trans shops like D&D Performance where they've already retrofitted the trans to work in whatever genereation maro you're looking to squeeze it in. Expensive, but when you add up what your buddy's ending bill will be, you'd be better off getting it done right the first time with a full waranty from guys who make a living doing it... and who are very reputable. Besides it'll speed up your time table, probably by years, not just months.

My 2¢

Depends, hydraulic linkage isn't too, too bad.
