BMW M-1 Suggestions?

Hi guys! I just re-discovered an old M-1 kit that was built when I was around 16 and I don't want to waste it because it is salvageable. I think it was made by Ertl or Esci. I was thinkin' maybe Tamiya Bright red but I'm open to suggestions on the color and wheel choices:confused: It won't be perfectly detailed but should be fun to restore. Thanks in advance for your ideas!:D

Does your kit also have the problem with front and rear fenders - when you put on the bumpers, they are designed for narrower fenders than what the body has

I wasted 3 months of my life to find that kit for a reasonable price, and when I finally found it I noticed this... it's for sale, if anyone is interested.

I finally got the front bumper on straight after about 1 hour of intricate sanding:bloated: I wouldn't bother but it represented an interesting challenge!

Dunno if it is just me, but I don't think your poll works, I tried to vote twice and it wouldn't let me vote:(

I've got the Airfix version in my cupboard, I LOVE M1's!!!:)

If mine ever gets built i will do it in pearl white but they also look stunning in red or black.

Your poll didnt work for me either but voted OTHER coz i think you should go with BLACK!

I voted for the Tamiya Bright Red. If you get the paint on just right you will end up with a great job.

I voted Red, I don't even know what this car looks like because i'm not really into BMWs, at all(rather a Merc:bloated: :D ) But I will take Flys, Pmans & your word for it.

I would do it in the BMW corporate colors. White car with diagonal Red and two shades of Blue stripes like the racecars. Do you have the race or street version? Like this picture.

Red would look very nice, but i think that people would mistake it for a Ferrari!
How about black like P/Man said but a metallic black?

but the BMW colour scheme that 953K3 suggest does appeal more to me as well :smoka:

I have two of the kits, one has correct bumpers, the other has the race car bumpers which have the wrong wheel opening depth. A bit of sanding/puttying should make it okay.

I built one many years ago in white, like the first M1 I ever saw and sat in. I want to build the new one much better than the one I built 20 years ago. It's a nice kit.

When my Mom bought a Z3 for her 75th birthday (yes, you hear that correctly, and she loves it...she lives near the factory in SC) there was a red M1 in the showroom. It's not bright red or Ferrari red, it's a bit darker, almost like the current M3 color which is almost a blood red. Testors dark red is close, but you could mix it w/regular red to brighten it a touch. It is dark enough to be a nice red w/o looking like a Ferrari, and it's a color I'm thinking of using. They also look great in white, black, and silver. Any of your color choices will look good, though I seem to prefer lighter colors on a car w/o brightwork so you can see the lines better. The M1 was originally a Lamborghini concept, but the design was sold to BMW. Imagine an M1 w/a Lamborghini V12...

A v12 would be nice but I saw them race at Watkins Glen and the Poconos in IMSA and that Straight six has a really neat sound(Buzz Bomb comes to mind). Didn,t they come in that Red Orange(like VW Maars Red) like M3's came in?

Here's what it looks like now; the engine is a straight six but I did a poor job with it so i'm not gonna try to rebuild it; workin' on too much other stuff!

:) I should go with the racing scheme too, looks so bmw-y ;)

also, for the interested...

Stop desperatly looking for one of these kits sold at humongous prices, if you are able to wait two or three months, the re-badges version wil come out on the Revell AG -label.

I can't wait.

if you are able to print decals by yourself, you could do a replica of one of the procar bmws with that brigt blue/blue/red sheme.

or the m1 artcar
