Code P0440

98 GA, 3.1 V6. Check engine light on, scanner says I have P0440 Evap System fault. Does any body have an idea?

check the gas cap?

I tighten the gas cap up just to make sure. Reset the Code and it returned.

had that on my car also and replaced the gas cap which fixed my problem after about a week or so. if not that then check any vacuum lines.

that is a small leak in your evap emissions system, and it could be many things.
The gas cap is the easiest to check and replace.
Thier is a rubber seal on the gas cap and if its dried out it might be the problem.

Also check the hose clamps down by the gas tank as they can become loose and leak air.
